(CNN)The Bahamas' Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration is warning its citizens traveling to the United States of "recent tensions in some American cities over shootings of young black males by police officers."

The government of the majority-black Caribbean nation emphasized in an statement Friday that its travelers should avoid crowds and demonstrations in the U.S. Young men, specifically, should "exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police ... Do not be confrontational and cooperate."
Thanks Bahamas MFA, keepin people safe by saying shit that should be common sense, other than the "young men" bit
Do not be confrontational and cooperate
Ah yes like what you should do with all police ever anywhere.
Wow you mean to say that cooperating with police doesn't get you fucked up?

Tell that to Philando Castile
Can't deny that US cops seem to be extra triggerhappy.

Doesn't mean horrible mistakes aren't made - if he matched the description for an armed robbery suspect the cop being jumpy may make a little more sense but that doesn't justify it. I'll leave it for that thread, though.
What I was referring to is when people get stopped and act like a douchebag and give the cop a hard time and then cry to social media when they get slammed into the concrete, tazed, and arrested

Acting like a douchebag to a cop is also no justification for being "slammed into the concrete, tazed, and arrested." That doesn't happen in the UK or in Canada.
In most decent western countries you can yell at or argue with a cop and they won't physically assault you unless you threaten them or assault them first, or if you're under arrest and are resisting by yelling/arguing/being a douche. It's a fair warning to tell travelers "you can't do that in America," and it says volumes about the issues with our police.

To say that police brutality doesn't happen in Canada or the UK is just ignorant.

I don't think anyone's trying to say that they have no problems, it's a matter of scale. I'd say our relationship with our police is a lot better with the exception of Winnipeg which is pretty much king shithole of Canada, easily worse than a huge amount of places in the US

It does. But not with the regularity and severity it does in the US. UK cops don't even carry guns, so I'd say it's just a little bit less risky to be a dick to a cop over there.

With good reason though? Considering its the US.

we also have more people than the UK and Canada combined
and well, our media is like the kings of propaganda

That's totally a consolation over being [B]dead.

Should do the same with people travelling to Brazil.
Good on them, I'd be worried too.
Should do the same with people travelling to Brazil.
On Brazil, it's the other way around - there's not a policeman on sight. No police violence whatsoever. :v:
People who don't realize what they're saying are idiots. They aren't saying don't be confrontational and cooperate, they're saying don't talk, don't make a move, listen to the officers every command. Confrontational and cooperate are the best words we can use politically to say there are men out there who become cops so they can shoot people and they get away with that too many times because of a broken system so watch out as theres no way to tell if you're dealing with a good cop or a bad cop.
