Five patients on a unit treating people with severe underlying health conditions at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff were infected.
Three appear to have acquired the infection in hospital.
They are thought to be the first confirmed cases of person-to-person transmission of a Tamiflu-resistant strain in the world.
There have been several dozen reports around the world of people developing resistance to Tamiflu while taking the drug - but they have not passed on the strain to others.
Oh my Gods! A flu that isn't even nearly as bad as the seasonal variant(which isn't generally treated with Tamiflu as a rule) is now resistant to a drug which didn't even make that much of a difference! We're all dead! :bees:
On a less hilarious note, this isn't really that big of a deal IMO, but it could make treatment for high risk patients a little more difficult. However, this does beg the question about future variants of H1N1 which might evolve even more resistances. Coupled with a higher severity of symptoms, then we could have problems, but for now, this is a slight inconvenience.

Oh my god, HOW LONG WILL THEY CONTINUE REPORTING ON THIS?!?!?
Really fucking annoying.
Someone should tell the media to shut up.
Swine Flu is only focused on by the media when there is fuck all else to write about, It's really nothing to worry about. I doubt this case is any different.
I didn't catch swine flu and everyone around him had it. I really couldn't give a shit about this either.
Luckily I got the other variant. TBH it didn't do much, it just made me think of Dr.Mario every time I took it, it was also a kind of guarentee to others."Holy crap man you still have Swine Flu!" "Chill, i took Tamiflu" "Oh cool."

Until the WHO brings it down from its pandemic level it is at now.
Meh, I got the shot anyway (I didn't even want to get it). Swine flu isn't even a big deal. I live in Hamilton, Ontario. Population of about 500,000 people.
People died as a result of H1N1: 39.
:smug:
We said this would happen, it did happen, but did they take the internet's advice? No they didn't, now they have to suffer the consequences.

not really, they were prepared for this
Hey guys some stupid flu that only infects weak people is going around!
It's not like people who have a parent who has cancer, and are undergoing chemotherapy which destroys their immune system are shitting themselves about it?! RIGHT?!
Way to be sensitive kids.
It's probably Tamiflu-resistant from all the morons using Tamiflu when they clearly don't need to.

You are correct.
Media is still having their own head shoved up their ass I see.
The side effects of Tami-Flu will probably make you more ill than Swine-Flu itself.

Yeah man, BBC News should stop reporting this stuff. Just coz it's news relevant to the survival of thousands of high-risk people across the world and they haven't sensationalised it at all doesn't mean they can get away with this shit!
I miss :bees:
Good thing I already had it.

You've been greatly misinformed.
I have swine flue in symbiotic relationship with me.
Tamiflu resistant but not vaccine resistant ? Oh the irony.
Very few people have it, and hospitals are doing all they can to contain it. This was the first recorded case in the world involving the transmission of a mutated strain of swine flu.
I contracted Swine Flu once, it was pathetic.
I'm calling green flu on this shit.
I contracted Swine Flu once, it was pathetic.
Well I was diagnosed with it last night and it's far from pathetic. Although it is statistically safer than season flu, the symptoms are still pretty servere. Especially the coughs which hurt like fuck.
