What is JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure?
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (also known as ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken) by Hirohiko Araki is one of the longest running manga series of all time, its 8 parts (and numerous other side stories) spanning twenty eight years and selling over eighty million copies in Japan alone. Because of that it has its own videogames, several novelizations, action figures, anime series, and even a jewelry line and snack foods. It has also become the most influential manga series of all time, influencing hundreds of manga, anime, videogames, and other stuff.
Q:if it’s so popular, how come I've never heard of it?
A:Like most things from Japan, it’s pretty much invisible in the US and parts of Europe. Surprisingly, JoJo’s is also super popular in Italy and France, especially the 5th part, Vento Aureo.
The Anime
Right now parts 1, 2 and 3 of the anime are complete and part 4 is just getting started. You can watch it on Crunchyroll every friday afternoon, but you'll need to register first.
Unlike most manga-to-anime adaptations, JoJo’s has been incredibly faithful to the series, with an almost ridiculous level of detail, and since the anime has 25+ years worth of content to catch up with there won’t be any weird made up catch up or pointless filler to prevent catching up with the manga. Practically every line of dialogue, pose, fight, onomatopoeia, and joke are 1:1 with the manga. In some cases the creators even managed to plug up some of the manga’s plotholes. The creators made an article about how they created Battle Tendency and Phantom Blood’s anime adaptations, which is briefly covered on onepixeljump in English and on cgworld in Japanese. Any fan of the manga is going to definitely appreciate the fact that the creators are the biggest JoJo nerds on the planet.
The manga
As for the manga, well you have the internet right? It's not too hard to find but you can start by clicking the title. The description you're about to read may contain SPOILERS. So read at your own risk. Also, you need to register at Bato.to if you wanna read it.

1987 – 1988
A literally hitler child named Dio Brando is adopted into the wealthy Joestar family and clashes with Joestar’s son and our protagonist: Jonathan Joestar. Things go from bad, to ugly, to repulsive, to downright EVIL, with plot elements such as: vampires, zombies, bread, magical breathing powers that let people channel sunlight energy through their bodies, Italians, wine, and a very emotional scar-face man with fierce eyebrows. Will Jonathan beat the evil Dio? [sp]Yeah, pretty much[/sp].

Battle Tendency
1988 – 1989
Jonathan’s much more interesting grandson, Joseph Joestar, takes on three super-vampires that looks like Mexican male-Strippers known as: The Pillar Men (Wammu, Esidesi, Kars). He doesn't do it alone, though, as he gets help from his womanizing unironic makeup-wearing bubble buddy, everyone’s favorite emotional eyebrows man, and the first female character in the series that actually does something significant.

Stardust Crusaders
1989 – 1992
Little Miss Sunshine, but with more muscular men, crazy bad guys, filler fights, JAPAN, FRANCE, and world-saving by traveling around the world, starring the incredibly bland Jotaro Kujo, Joseph’s half Japanese half American grandson and his weird hair hat. This part is one of the most significant as it’s the first to introduce Stands, which are essentially a physical manifestation of one’s fighting spirit.

Diamond is Unbreakable
1992 – 1996
Josuke Higashikata, [sp]Joseph Joestar’s son that he had in an adulterous relationship behind his wife’s back[/sp], is just a small town boy living in the small town of Morioh. Except he’s not, he’s a stylish high school student with stylish hair and anger issues. [sp]His stand name is Crazy Diamond, which pretty much confirms how sick he is[/sp]. A menace (or two, or three.. or four..) is plaguing the small town and it’s up to him and his stupid friends to save the day. Also Jotaro is in this one.
If you're reading this right now, go read the Duwang translation while you're at it. It's amusing how it's badly translated.

Vento Aureo
1996 – 1999
Vento Aureo is weird. Not only is the protagonist, Giorno Giovanna, [sp]more loosely related to the rest of the Joestars because he’s one of Dio’s vampire-food-baby-children from Part 3, so technically he’s related to Jonathan(‘s lower half) and not the newer Joestars[/sp], but he only interacts with only a [sp]handful of the series’ previous characters[/sp], so it’s mostly self contained.
It stars Giorno and the members of the Naples-based Italian gang called Passione. After getting into the gang, Giorno and his new friends find out that there’s more behind Passione than selling drugs and collecting debt money. Featuring the most obvious and blatant musical references in all of JoJo, and a cast of thin, attractive boys instead of the usual ultra-muscular beefcakes of parts 1-4.

2000 – 2003
Jolyne Kujo (yes, a GURL JOJO), Jotaro’s daughter, is framed and put into prison. After developing her Stand ability, she has to discover who framed her and why.

Steel Ball Run
2004 – 2011
[sp]The year is 1890[/sp], and Stephen Steel starts a race called the Steel Ball run, which pits thousands of people on horseback against each other in a race across the continental United States. The paraplegic Johnny Joestar decides to enter the race after a strange encounter with a mysterious foreigner named Gyro Zeppeli and his steel balls (get it?). Will Johnny discover the secret behind Gyro’s heavy, shiny, and voluptuous steel balls? Will he learn to walk again? Will he win the prize? Stay tuned!

JoJolion
2011 – Ongoing
JoJolion is the newest part of JoJo and I have no idea what the fuck it’s even about. All I know is about a dude with gap teeth in a sailor uniform named [sp]Josuke (Not really his name)[/sp], who lives in Morioh (again). He shoots bubbles and lost his memory, but a girl who’s [sp]named after a character from part 4 (yeah, again)[/sp] helps him out.
The game
There's also several games too but I'm for now, I'm going to talk about this:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven is a newest Jojo tag-team brawler game that can play up to 4 players with some new characters that you can't play from the previous game. it comes out in Japan on December 17th only on PS3 and PS4, not sure when will it come in North-America or Europe.
The Stand
The Stand is like your favorite X-men character (whether it's a humanoid or not) who is a ghost, standing behind you, follows you around and protect you with his special ability/power. However, not all stands has a master and it's not just humans that can have a stand, some stand users is an animal too. Most of the stands are named after a music band, a song or an album (because Araki is too lazy come up with a name). Some stands cannot be seen by naked eyes (unless you're a stand user), but others can be seen.
PM me if you want something to change!
hey since its the first page of the thread, let me post my simple guide on "Hey, I just got into the JoJo's anime, when should I start reading the manga?"
question: do you know what dio's stand does?
if no, i recommend sticking with the anime until part 3 is over. the buildup to it is great, and not too far off in the future. i can only imagine it will be better in the show
if yes, yeah go ahead. i still would personally wait til part 3 is over, but you're not going to really ruin anything for yourself by that point.
and dont bother waiting for the inevitable part 4 anime, that probably wont be for a while and it's a fantastic read anyway
A mod could always rename it.
I don't have any ideas for a title though
Well, it can be like:
Dio did nothing wrong
Hop in our ride and let's get posin'
Electric posaloo
Like X-men but anime
you are not cool enough to touch things
it's a fantastic read anyway
Is there a good source for this? I've wanted to read Part IV but I couldn't find good scans like the past three.

There's a group called The Invincible Trio that did a complete re-scanlation

Reading Duwang after reading the good translations is such an adventure

This and "who in FACE are you!?"
[t]http://puu.sh/gHGmq/0dd1fb0b41.jpg[/t]
Where's a good place I can read Duwang? From what I've seen it's amazing, but I can't find it.
Also, first post in this thread, hi.
Watched Barbie part 2 and looks like
FUTURE STARDUST SPOILER
[sp]Shooting Dio will be in along with Hol Horse and Boingo and HHB will be 2 parts[/sp]
I love how they [sp]made D'arby's hair go white as he gives up[/sp] in the newest episode.
Can't wait til we get D'arby the Gamer.

Also how [sp]Star Platinum showed up for a splitsecond after getting Jorato a cigarette[/sp]
I think this 2 parter dragged on a bit.
I think it should've been around 1.5 episodes, but you can't exactly switch to another story in the middle of an episode so they ended up with around 10 minutes of fluff.
I actually think this was one of the fights where 2 episodes was the perfect lenght.
[HEAVY BREATHING]

also, nothing like some unglodly amazing hand drawn animations of card shuffling to remind you that you ain't shit after you spent a day drawing hands.
I like how Kakyoin has been in hospital for most of this season.
also, nothing like some unglodly amazing hand drawn animations of card shuffling to remind you that you ain't shit after you spent a day drawing hands.
well animators usually get paid peanuts and have very little time off, they also probably used a reference
I like how Kakyoin has been in hospital for most of this season.
He was in the hospital for ~40 chapters when the manga was going through part three.
But don't worry, he's cool when he gets back.
[editline]21st March 2015[/editline]
Also shit, after Hol Horse and Boingo, we're probably getting the stuff with Pet Shop.
Only three weeks.
Will Pet Shop be a two-parter?
Probably. I'm guessing, at this point, the only fights that won't be two-parters are ones that barely filled a chapter in the manga and DIO.
Probably. I'm guessing, at this point, the only fights that won't be two-parters are ones that barely filled a chapter in the manga and DIO.
Dio didn't even have a whole chapter? Doesn't sound like much of a climax seeing as we've had 2 seasons building up to it.
imo Dio's World will be 5 episodes
