This is the result of overthinking, i think its more of the fact the asari appear attractive to other races is so they can acquire diverse genes.
My thought was that they were based off of Sirens or Mermaids on how anyone can be attracted and compatible to them like Deathtrooper said.
That or the creators watched a ton of Star Trek and thought we needed at least one alien race that was based off the green alien Kirk banged.
The fuck is that sfm model in the thumbnail?

You gotta reel in viewers somehow.

I can't remember, it's been forever since I played Mass Effect, but don't asari look different to other races? Is there some weird illusionary shit going on or am I totally remembering wrong.
I think this might have been a concept in another piece of fiction and I'm getting them confused.

Its more of the makers of Mass effect wanted their own "Green space babe". Though, their physical characteristics resemble other alien races. Body shape of a female human, skin of a salarian, and the head fringe of a turian. Though, Mordin explains it can be caused by special hormones that make them attractive to other races. Explaining how they can be attractive to Krogans, Quarians, the Drell, etc.
The Asari don't look anything different then what we see them as. Mass Effect 3 confirmed this

There's a conversation between some NPCs at a table in ME2 that hints that every species views Asari as resembling their own species more than another.
To the player obviously the asari look like human women with make-up but maybe the appearance of their face changes for each species. Or maybe it's just hormones that make it seem like they're attractive to anyone, like in Deathtrooper2's post.

Unless they have magic powers that stretch to the infinite depths of space and manipulate both traditional and digital film, the illusion would fall apart when you photographed them

my thought about this is that they leave a lasting effect with their biotics that would change how that person perceives them forever
yeah this theory eventually falls apart but that section with the turian salarian and human commenting the way they do is a curiosity.
biotics aren't really "magic", though, no? it'd be pretty impressive if they could alter brain chemistry with them

we don't really know what it is
Mass Effect 1 laid the foundations for a wonderfully thoughtful sci fi universe with things like Element Zero being a prominent feature, the mass effect technology itself being an intriguing thing
and then they kind of left all the interesting sci fi bits to languish while they go do a fucking space opera.

Yeah, that's definitely the conversation I'm remembering.

If this is true that settles it then though, I never played the third.
I liked the concept.

Where at? I don't remember this but I haven't played ME3 for a few years.

Three drunk virgins confirmed nothing and this video is butt awful deviant art bait and so is the quarian one.
