Is there not an equivalent to the ADA (Americans with disabilities act) in the UK? stuff like this is blatantly illegal in the US, and would nearly guaranteed get the school sued.

There are good schools out there but its really just insane how much they try to control everything that happens.

I notice the story specifically says 'issues with the NEW cane'. Not sure if, perhaps, she had to go through an approval process before with the old cane for them to allow it. It'd be silly, but i suppose it'd prevent distractions from glow in the dark, chrome, and other canes that'd distract young kids. The mother claims there was no issue with the cane, but the school doesn't mention if she accidentally tripped someone or anything.
