China will “conduct studies on the preliminary plan for a human lunar landing”, it said. A manned moon mission is still some time off – Chinese experts say after 2020 – but the statement highlights Beijing’s soaring ambitions just five months after the US retired its space shuttle programme. “Chinese people are the same as people around the world,” Zhang Wei, an official with China’s National Space Administration, said at a briefing. “When looking up at the starry sky, we are full of longing and yearning for the vast universe.” According to the white paper, which serves as a blueprint for the next five years, China will develop new satellites, accelerate efforts to build a space station and strengthen its research in space.[/release] Yay, I get to see a man walk on the moon in my lifetime. Thanks, China. And also
“Chinese people are the same as people around the world,” Zhang Wei, an official with China’s National Space Administration, said at a briefing. “When looking up at the starry sky, we are full of longing and yearning for the vast universe.”
was incredibly well said. I agree.
I hope there'll be another space race
I hope they suddenly venture into plans to build a moonbase. 约翰大怒足球
I hope there'll be another space race
During the cold war the space race was mostly fueled by the fact that they wanted to put weapons and all sorts of spy-satellites in space. Now there is no need, so I doubt it. But I'm glad China's taking initiative here.
"Chinese people are the same as people around the world"... haha this made me laugh. So out of the blue and unexpected
The title's a little misleading, i thought they'd actually got someone up there right now. Still cool though, looking forward to seeing how it goes. Didn't a bunch of rockets explode after takeoff recently or something, though?
At least someone's showing an interest :(
And then in 500 years, Firefly.
Fuck the title made me think they just landed or some shit.
SECRET COMMIE MOON BASE Oh how Fox News would love it
The title's a little misleading, i thought they'd actually got someone up there right now.
Oh sorry, I see how that could be misleading. Mods, could you add "plans for" after "CONFIRMS" in the title? EDIT: Thanks mod.
It's about damn time someone took back the initiative, but it's really surprising to see it's China. Oh well, with such a blooming economy I guess it was only a matter of time.

mfw China claims the moon as their rightful territory.
Well i would wish it was ESA that said that. Im bored of fucking probes, send some real shit out there..
how long until I can buy a pair of Moon Nikes made by moon children
The title's a little misleading, i thought they'd actually got someone up there right now. Still cool though, looking forward to seeing how it goes. Didn't a bunch of rockets explode after takeoff recently or something, though?
I think that was Russia.
Herro Russian and America, what? we late for space race? No probrem we got tehere anyway.
mfw China claims the moon as their rightful territory.
meh america would do the same if NASA hadn't been crippled by funding cuts.
I think that was Russia.
3 Days later the same model rocket worked fine, thankfully because it has people on board :v:
how long until I can buy a pair of Moon Nikes made by moon children
With some defensive moon rock powder on the soles. If someone attempts to mug you, kick them so they get terminally ill.
Herro Russian and America, what? we late for space race? No probrem we got tehere anyway.
Well the Soviets/Russians have never actually landed people on the moon, so the Chinese can still beat them to it.
Here's hoping this causes Washington to pull funding from TSA and dump it into NASA. We've done it once, we can do it again, let's do it!
another space race might turn into another south park episode
I have never understood why they havent created a small moonbase or something. I mean, surely its a good place to test out a self-sustaining base away from Earth, where they can also observe/research and gather samples of things easier, because, well they are pretty much in space.
It would be funny if they made a video of them throwing the American flag off into space and planting the Chinese one in its place. :v:
"Chinese people are the same as people around the world"... haha this made me laugh. So out of the blue and unexpected
What did you expect.
Some good news at last, China needs to succeed not for their country, but for humanity.
Finally, it's about time someone went back to the moon, or space in general, nowadays we are losing sight of what's important, because too often we forget we are just a tiny little insignificant planet in a massive galaxy, in which there are most likely other life forms. We are too caught up in comparatively small things.
The Chinese beat the Russians on to the moon? Woah!
Re rill make new china for rah grorious rotherrand!
