The Nintendo NX remains a mystery machine at this point. Nintendo hasn’t revealed any details about their upcoming console, apart from the fact that they want to release the NX in March 2017. As expected, a lot of rumors regarding the console’s specs and design have surfaced over the last year, but all need to be taken with a bag of salt for now.
CD Projekt Red however, seems to know certain things about the NX that us ‘common’ people don’t, judging from a recent interview with Rocket Beans TV.

Host: What do you know about NX?
Fabian: It will be fantastic. As developer [CD Projekt] you get access to the hardware and everybody [at CD Projekt] is looking forward. We know things.
Host: Are you lying now?
Fabian: No, no.
Host: Sometimes I cannot tell if you are telling the truth or not.
Fabian: No, no! It was like this in the past as the Wii prototypes came in, back then called “Revolution”. It was so funny that in Japan they were all very excited at the developer studios of SEGA, they thought it was very good. The Europeans took a little longer. Like “Well, maybe this doesn’t work”, you know, because it was technically just a GameCube. It was not much more. But NX what you hear [of the developers] about NX is all very positive.
Host: But the hardware will be much worse than the new Xbox.
Fabian: I think this will never again be the main emphasis in the future [for Nintendo]. Can it [NX] be better than the new Xbox? Take a realistic point of view: is Nintendo able to build a console that has got more power than Xbox?
Host: In theory it is possible.
Fabian: Affordable? Do they have the contacts to the industrial facilities, resources… [Shakes head several times in denial] And what would be the positive outcome? Who is going to develop games for it?

Just like the Wii U was going to be THE platform to play Battlefield on.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the NX is, as a Nintendo fan they are going to have to try really hard to mess it up to make me not want to get it.
How about we instead of talking about specs, start talking about actual games? You know, the sole problem that Nintendo's Wii U had?

The Wii U has tons of good games. But I agree that worrying so much about specs is dumb.

Did someone actually say that?
I'm just worried that the NX will lack third party support like Nintendo's other consoles previously, that's really the only downside to having a Wii U console.

By the looks of things EA and Ubisoft will release crap for it during the first year or two and suddenly disappear while 2K claims to be "interested" but then actually not do anything.
It's funny. If Nintendo just pulled their heads out of their asses, quit the gimmicks, made some powerful hardware, and just released a normal fucking console third party devs can get behind, I think they'd do so much better. They'd probably top everyone else in terms of exclusives, and I think these days that's what matters most to people.
They already said they are not gonna join the race for graphics

NX won't be any more powerful than the current PS4. They said they are targeting the casual market like they did with the wii.
Hopefully they can deliver ps4 graphics for 250 or less to stand a chance. If NX fails nintendo should stop making consoles and go third party.

Except that doesn't fit them at all. They cater to the Japanese market more so than the other regions. Small and power efficient home consoles seem to be what is wanted there outside of handhelds. Plus they want to keep costs low and they can't exactly do that by throwing the latest and greatest tech into their boxes. From my understanding the entire gimmick for the Wii U was the tablet because in Japan it's not very common to have more than one TV in the house so the tablet allowed for off-screen play so the TV could be made free for other family members.

As long as their handhelds keep selling as well as they now they have zero reason to go third party. The 3DS is pretty much what kept the afloat outside of Amiibos. Plus the mentality at Nintendo is to close their doors if it ever came to that.. But considering recent events that mentality may have changed, but I doubt it has since they're stuck to it for so long and have a massive warchest of money to sit on.

Didn't they try exactly that with the gamecube? I mean you gotta look at it from Nintendo's perspective here, they released a dedicated and powerful for it's time gaming machine and it was pretty much ignored in favor of the PS2 and Xbox, then they release the Wii and it sells like hotcakes.
Which side are they going to continue to push?
Heard it all before.
I mean they did the exact same thing when the Wii U came out, getting a lot of developers together saying how awesome the Wii U is going to be.
Kinda loses its effectiveness the second time around.

The 3DS sales aren't doing all that great anymore, though, and I don't think it's just because the 3DS is becoming old. A lot of the market has probably moved to smartphones.

It's mostly likely a combination of both, but it's not like the system doing terribly either.
They did fuck up with the whole N3DS thing by hardly supporting it.

I don't think Nintendo should ever go third party. Although I would love for them to have another go at a Nintendo Playstation but I doubt it'll ever happen.
Why is CD Projekt Red concerned with the NX? I'd think they'd be more interested in PC hardware for their fantastic looking games. Plus, if they aren't 100% dedicating their workforce towards developing Cyberpunk, I'm going to explode. Mybe this means their next game (Cyberpunk) will see a NX release?

They've got enough in the war chest to keep going for 30-50 years at a loss you know.
If I had a dollar for every time somebody tried to predict Nintendo's impending doom, well, I wouldn't be a millionaire but I'd certainly be close.

Doomed since 1989 indeed.

Sure, but they kinda need to get the NX out the door right. I mean sure, they could sit and shit out cash for years to come, but having two failed consoles (sales wise) in a row wouldn't exactly inspire confidence.

Read the tweet linked above, he wasn't being completely serious about it.

I think with the how well received Zelda was at E3 I think they have at least guaranteed system seller as no one in their right mind would buy a Wii U for the game. I think if they can get at least two more big titles and a decent sharing of third support day one the NX could be in slightly better shape than the NX.
A company I use to work for had a leak a few months back regarding a third party FPS possibly coming to the NX, but they smothered it so quickly the name of the game never got out.

It's also what they did for NES, SNES, and N64 and it worked immensely. Heck, even Gamecube had far better third party support than the Wii U.
They've got enough in the war chest to keep going for 30-50 years at a loss you know.
The thing is, people are saying that for over 50 years already.

The worrying thing about Nintendo is that they really don't like to ship games at launch. I really, really hope they don't do the mistake they did with how they launched the Wii U. Where the only title from Nintendo was New Super Mario Bros. U. That's it. Everything else were mediocre thirdparty ports.

This is NOT how you launch a new console.

So Nintendo Land isn't a Nintendo title? :v:
You have a point though, the Wii U's launch was incredibly weak for a new console, but considering the NX will have a major Zelda title at launch I wouldn't be super worried.

Got to agree there, I didn't buy a Wii U until Mario Kart 8 came out. I'm hoping the new Zelda game and whatever that new Mario game is will be ready for the launch.

Still wondering what is going on with Pikmin 4 considering it was almost "finished" when Miyamoto last spoke about it.

Nintendo Land was a Mii extension which got initial praise, but it was essentially just minigames.
I really want to get into Nintendo again, but I really find it sad how Nintendo never takes advantage of filling up the game libraries at launch. They failed with Nintendo Wii and Wii U. It's just really sad.
Well, I guess the Wii did release with Twilight Princess. But still, that's about it.
I hope the Nintendo NX really has a good launch and doesn't rely solely on third party ports.
Thankfully the NX has the new Zelda game at launch which will be it's main selling point until Nintendo gets some Mario games and other games on the console, even if it seems it takes up to 2 years before such titles arrive.
iirc Kimishima did say that the NX is being released when it is because they wanted to strengthen the launch lineup
