MANILA - Malaysia called in air strikes and mobilized thousands of troops on Tuesday to put an end to a month-long quixotic incursion by a band of gunmen from the Philippines seeking to reclaim part of Borneo Island for a defunct sultanate. Three F-18 fighter jets and five Hawk ground-attack aircraft bombed and strafed the estimated 200 Filipino gunmen holed up near the small northeastern Malaysian village of Kampung Taduo, Malaysian Defense Minister Ahmad Zahid said on Tuesday. The air strikes were followed by a ground assault that killed an undetermined number of the Filipino gunmen but caused no Malaysian casualties, the defense minister said.
Planes bombed the area in eastern Sabah state on Tuesday for more than 30 minutes before hundreds of ground troops moved in to search for around 180 members of the self-proclaimed Royal Sulu Army believed to be hiding near a coastal palm-oil plantation, Malaysian officials said. The armed group, who hail from the southern Philippines, landed in a coastal village in Sabah on February 9 to claim the territory as their own, citing ownership documents from the late 1800s.
Police inspector general Ismail Omar told reporters the mission's goals had been accomplished and there were no Malaysian casualties, without giving further details.
Relatives of the group who have been in touch with the gunmen by phone from Manila said they had survived the bombardment.
"They are safe, they are intact," Abraham Idjirani, a spokesman for the group, told Philippine television.

This is the first time the F18s has an actual combat mission ever since they were bought in 1997.
Those Filipino terrorist made their way into Malaysian land by deadly force. of course they going to get attack by the military. For the record, the gunman did used terrorism in their attack from what I've heard
Actually, this is pretty fucked because those disputed lands are already given to the Philippines. Malaysia only has administrative rule, not sovereign rule over the land.
If anything, Malaysia are the terrorists here, attacking a town and destroying the rebel force that seeked to stop further bloodshed. They also kill innocent people without documentation. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos populate the land and have increased since the 70's. For the government to suddenly go there and claim it is a dick move.
Malaysian government are assholes while my country's government get paid to do nothing.

These so-called "Sulu Sultanate Army" came in to Malaysian territories armed with assault rifles. They are the aggressors.
The Malaysian Government has conducted peace negotiations that lasted for 3 weeks.
The negotiation failed after the so-called Sultanate Army fired the first shot that killed two police commandos.
Then the Sulu armies tried to capture the police station, an operation which killed 6 Malaysian policemen. One of the dead policeman was beheaded by the Sulu Army.
The Malaysian Government has given "Sultanate Army" ample time to return from where they came from. Even the Phillipine Government asked them to go back to the Phillipines.
Oh, and even the locals hate them. One of them was beaten alive by the villagers while they were being rounded up. By the Sulu army.
So no, I do not see where you are coming from.
why are people rating this winner?
Because reading about people getting killed is entertainment for idiots.

I call bullshit. A quick look at the wikipedia page for Sabah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabah shows it is impossible for Philippines to claim Sabah as their own. Sabah belonged to the Brunei Sultanate then the northern & eastern portion of Borneo was ceded to the Sulu Sultanate. During the late 1700's the Sulu Sultanate ceded all it's territories to Spain.
Then in 1885,quoting from the wiki page
"In 1885, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany signed the Madrid Protocol of 1885, which recognised the sovereignty of Spain in the Sulu Archipelago in return for the relinquishment of all Spanish claims over North Borneo. In 1888 North Borneo became a protectorate of the United Kingdom."
Then Sabah was occupied by the Japs during WWII,became a British Crown Colony again after the war and then gained self-government during 1963.
In 1962 the Cobbold Commission http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobbold_Commission was formed to determine whether Sabah & Sarawak wanted to join with Malaya to form Malaysia. The majority of the populace favoured the union.
TL;DR Philippines have no right or claim on Sabah.
Based on your logic then Brunei has the most right to claim Sabah as it's own or England could claim any of it's territories during the British Empire since they "owned" it according to history.
You also said
Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos populate the land and have increased since the 70's. For the government to suddenly go there and claim it is a dick move.

70's? Based on the links I posted Sabah joined Malaysia during the early 60's so your claim is also false.
Don't know either your a die-hard nationalist or you have been reading to much propaganda shit.
[edit] Another quicksearch resulted in me finding that there are 5 people who claim to be the Sultan of Sulu[the aggressors in this attack] and nobody knows whose the genuine sultan. So an imposter posing as a long dissolved Sultanate wants to claim territory of a sovereign nation. Which somehow enables Philippines to claim that territory as their own based on historic right?. You sir are definitely shitting on your keyboard.

We can't do anything. Even China Army is in the Spratly Islands. We don't have the equipment to attack or defend so the government just ignores it. It's there fault that their the first ones who act violently.
