Millions of people in the UK do not have a single friend and one in five feel unloved, according to a survey published on Tuesday by the relationship charity Relate.
One in 10 people questioned said they did not have a close friend, amounting to an estimated 4.7 million people in the UK may be leading a very lonely existence.
Ruth Sutherland, the chief executive of Relate, said the survey revealed a divided nation with many people left without the vital support of friends or partners.
While the survey found 85% of individuals questioned felt they had a good relationship with their partners, 19% had never or rarely felt loved in the two weeks before the survey.
"Whilst there is much to celebrate, the results around how close we feel to others are very concerning. There is a significant minority of people who claim to have no close friends, or who never or rarely feel loved – something which is unimaginable to many of us," said Sutherland.
"Relationships are the asset which can get us through good times and bad, and it is worrying to think that there are people who feel they have no one they can turn to during life's challenges. We know that strong relationships are vital for both individuals and society as a whole, so investing in them is crucial."

I have no friends either. Maybe I can move to the UK to find a best bro.
Oddly enough, I bet this statistic is less in the US. US residents are overall friendlier, to be honest. The UK just feels colder and unfriendlier - both in weather and societal flavor.
Well considering how many people have such high fucking standards of others.
My close friends are dickheads and I hate them. It's a mutual hatred however.
That's because people here are assholes 9 times of 10
just get a waifu like normal people
I'll be your friend
:(
Hey, what are online forums for.
I can't imagine that, having friends and people you love generally can be the most valuable thing in the world.
I wonder how many of them are lonely because they are dickheads of creeps themselves

Its a poor substitute.
Perhaps, but at least it's better than nothing!
I haven't had a friend since High School. That was 6 years ago.

yes the people in the UK are as cold as a turd that was put into deep space
Lucky for me I have one close friend that I met at the start of Secondary School.
Though in the years previous I never had a close friend and let's just say I was last picked a lot.

Depends how you look at it. I met a girl on a roleplay forum back in 2006, and her and I still talk to this day, and have made plans to start a fishing journal together in which we go look for rare endemic species around the United States.
At least there's still anime ;_;
I often feel this way unfortunately. British people are very much to themselves. I've always wanted to move away purely for this reason.

It might seem like a good solution but mentally some people can get really depressed through it. There is no real substitute for real friends.
'Friend' is a loose term in Britain. I personally only have 1 friend that I see often and I've known him since school, where I work there is only 3 of us, I'm 24 they are 43+ years old... so yea..
Move up North, we're friendly up here.
[sp]Don't. We don't want you, you Southern cunts.[/sp]

I would think twice about that. I imagine expatriates have difficult social lives.
I don't have any friends down here, but thats prob due to the reason that I'm forced to move around so much. But still, The only real friends I have is online.

Each to their own, but I'm not the type of person to go and do things on my own, so usually end up sitting at home all day.
I stopped hanging around with people from school once I joined college. Now I'm at Uni and I've come home for the summer (for work) I don't even wanna meet half of my old friends.
Most of them are high off their tits on MCat or pissing about wasting their life, stuck in the same situation I had last seen them in...
I do have close friends at Uni and from college but I'm quite far away from them till September.

Name fits
I can't imagine being so alone that you don't have a single close friend
I have a few and I still feel alone sometimes

Some people like being alone.

I visit the U.K routinely and I can honestly say some of the people I met there are the most cynical I ever met.
