"Western civilisation is in a war. We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia they should be deported," Gingrich told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "Sharia is incompatible with western civilisation. Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door," he added.

Mr Gingrich, who was in the frame as Mr Trump's potential running mate before Indiana Governor Mike Pence was asked, also suggested monitoring US mosques and jailing anyone who visits websites favouring a terror group. "Anybody who goes on a website favouring Isis, or al-Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail," he added.
Source
Cause a though police is such a great idea.
The idea that anyone who believes in Sharia should be deported is hilariously absurd. What about Muslims from Bangladesh, where Sharia is almost entirely confined to community religious courts for family matters like divorce? They "believe in Sharia," but that doesn't include any of the harsh punishments at all - it's not much different from many American churches that force certain family behaviors. Also, what if a researcher on the radicalization of Islam visits an ISIS website? Should he be locked in jail? Should we expand that to other groups - if you've ever visited Stormfront, you get prison? He's just angling to steal the VP slot away from Pence now. Gingrich is a tool.
This is nothing short of disgusting. The most bothersome part is that a good amount of people, some of whom I live among, actually listen to this guy. Someone who spouts borderline human-rights violating proposition is actually placed on a pedestal by a decent amount of people and is respected enough to posses genuine political power and representation. I know this is part of a greater discussion, but it's just shocking to think about for me. How insane the people who represent us are allowed to be while still being taken seriously.
Both of these suggestions are blatantly illegal.

Saying all muslims who believe in sharia should be deported is basically saying all muslims should be deported

Saying all muslims who believe in sharia should be deported is basically saying all muslims should be deported
I try to compare it to people who say they "believe in the Bible." Does that mean you look at Romans 1:29-32 and wholeheartedly believe that people who boast too much or people who are disobedient to their parents are "worthy of death?" No, probably not. Does that mean you aren't a "real Christian" who doesn't actually "believe in the Bible?" No, again, not at all - you interpret it differently. The same goes for Muslims - many, many Muslims would say they "believe in Sharia" or something similar when they're in fact saying that their religious beliefs, traditions, and practices are important to them - not that they think we need a theocratic Islamic caliphate to chop the hands off of thieves and stone adulterers to death. When people talk about Sharia and focus on the punishments, they're being intentionally misleading in the same way that people who focus on the violent aspects of the Bible are being misleading. Most people don't exactly take those to heart. Belief in Sharia law is oftentimes the equivalent to belief in Christian moral law, and it includes basic shit like "take a shower after sex" and how to pray, much like Christianity includes directions for humility (turn the other cheek) and other behavioral instructions.
It's a shame Gringrich attached himself to Trump early on, now that slimeball is getting as much limelight as the other.
Oh look, Newt Gingrich is being stupid again. What a fucking surprise lol.
What is freedom of religion. The Supreme Court would rule this unconstitutional and laugh Gingrich out of the room.
"Anybody who goes on a website favouring Isis, or al-Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail"
Oh yeah let's jail people for visiting certain websites nothing can go wrong with that slippery slope. Hey how about we also jail everyone that plays violent video games they're clearly just criminals in the making too.
Absurd and unconstitutional violations of human rights based on massive, xenophobic misconceptions about what "Sharia Law" actually is from a person who was on the shortlist to be Trump's runningmate? Big surprise.
Anybody who goes on a website favouring Isis, or al-Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail
That's absolutely nuts, not even child pornography laws are this insane.
shariah is hardly as religious as it is cultural?
"muslim isnt a race so im not racist"
How does one 'believe' in Sharia? It's a religious legal system, not a set of beliefs. It isn't just shit like "lashes for looking at a goat on a tuesday" as some people seem to think it is, either; most of the Sharia is focussed a.) solely on muslims and b.) largely mundane; things like the procedure for ritual purification, the five times you have to worship, the direction of Mecca, that sort of thing. If you're a practicing muslim, you follow Sharia to at least some extent.
How about fuck you Gingrich. We have free speech and freedom of religion for a reason. No exceptions. You make exceptions, and soon there'll be exceptions to everything.
But according to the reports, the truck driver was just a depressed nut job who his neighbors said didn't give two shits about religion?
We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia they should be deported," Gingrich told Fox News' Sean Hannity.
What is "why, no sir. I don't believe in Sharia law" *wink wink*?
"Anybody who goes on a website favouring Isis, or al-Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail," he added.
Whoops, I just typoed the name of this other site that so happened to be named similarly to this pro-Isis/al-Qaeda site and now I'm a felon!

One of the questions posits that the alleged terrorist is in a desert when a tortoise crawls towards him. He reaches down and flips the tortoise on its back. The terrorist watches as the tortoise kicks its legs, trying to flip itself over, its stomach baking in the sun, but it can't. Not without his help. But he's not helping. Why is that, Alice3173?
That's some 1984 type style bullshit.

Gingrich can go fuck himself. These same proposals could fuck over JoeSkylynx, myself, and several others on this forum because we could be subject to our own "Sharia law" test only it would involve a very different subject. "Anybody who goes on a website favoring the NRA, or Copwatch, or other rights advocacy groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail." Shit, I know Joe and I would be in hot water for our tenuous links to the "militia movement." Ignoring my own self-interest for a moment I'm still vehemently opposed to piecemeal attacks on our rights, we've had enough and as far as I'm concerned we should be reversing that trend, not accelerating it. Once you start testing these people and those people it's just a hop, skip, and a jump before testing all people for things like "loyalty" and "obedience."
freedom of religion except when it inconveniences me.
The guy's name is Newt Gingrich Newt Gingrich How can anyone take this slimy fucking reptile humanoid seriously
In breaking news Newt Gingrich has finally reached the sixteenth century.
"Anybody who goes on a website favouring Isis, or al-Qaeda, or other terrorist groups, that should be a felony, and they should go to jail," he added.
I, too, want to criminalize the free spread of information.
this will stop terrorism 100 percent right here guys 'are you muslim?' 'no' 'ok ur free 2 go' what are they going to do try and make them eat bacon? also, that site one. i could see somebody making a goo.gl link or something and trolling people to get them a felony EDIT: the only thing they could do is background checks, and even then probably not
Next he'll expect them to sew a crescent and star into their clothes.
Like what does that have to do with this
Did you try reading the very last sentence that clearly indicates that he's saying these sort of proposed solutions are a slippery slope? Not that it shouldn't have been blatantly obvious without that sentence to begin with.
