ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A grandmother is behind bars after police say she was swerving across lanes of US1 while her 3 year-old grandchild was in the back of the car.

Sanda Layton, 37, was seen swerving through traffic around Sunday night. When officers caught up with her, she was asked to get out of the car. According to a police report, Layton was slurring and mumbling her words and nearly fell over several times.

Officers called her husband to come pick up their 3-year-old grandchild who was in a car seat in the back of the car.

The arresting officer wrote in the police report, "Though the child was properly restrained in a child seat, the eminent traffic crash would have put him in great danger of serious injury or death."

Layton is charged with DUI and child neglect and is behind bars at the St. Johns County jail.[/release]
