• Jon Stewart discovers Koch advertisements running during his show and then makes his own "improved'
Jon Stewart realized that Koch Industries (of David and Charles Koch fame/infamy) had been running ads during the Daily Show, and, unsurprisingly, decided to address it. The ad isn't political, it highlights the company's work and the people working there. Many wondered if the ads were designed to counter negative reactions to the Kochs' political activity when they debuted in June. An executive at Koch Industries denied that in a Washington Post story last month.
Holden disputed that notion, saying the ads are aimed at spotlighting jobs available because of Koch’s continued growth. “We have not been impacted by the political attacks in our recruiting, hiring or retention, nor have our businesses been impacted,” he said. Where the toll has been felt, Holden said, is personally by the Kochs, who have faced harassment from opponents, including death threats. The vitriol has affected Koch Industries employees as well, Cohlmia said. “The collateral damage is something important that should be spoken about,” she said, adding: “We know the family. We know the businesses. And they are very good people. So the effect of that on us as employees, it’s very hard.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/10/30/jon-stewart-realized-that-koch-industries-was-running-ads-during-his-show-so-he-trolled-them/?TID=SM_FB Video in the link

As someone in the UK I have no idea what the obsession over these brothers whose second name is dangerously close to being pronounced as cock.
As someone in the UK I have no idea what the obsession over these brothers whose second name is dangerously close to being pronounced as cock.
Hyper-rich corporatists who insist on being balls-deep in the democratic process, monetarily speaking. They spend an absurd amount of money lobbying to get favorable laws and candidates pushed through. They make full use of the Citizens United ruling to run quite a few PACs.

Their industries are in the energy and manufacturing sectors so they contribute to pollution and the like. Personally don't like them because I don't trust any uber rich internationalists, but it gives people like Sen. Harry Reid an Emmanuel Goldstein to attack.
snip realized I can view it with that chrome thing

Koch funds my youth entrepreneur class, so it's the only class with a surplus of money. The first assignment in the class was a little odd, we had to watch and take notes over a video about if rich people and CEO's have to much money (answer was mostly a no) and if they are evil (again, a no with "acceptions"). Koch isn't mentioned much in class other than saying that they fund the class, and stories of people of the koch family from my teacher's personal experiences.
As someone in the UK I have no idea what the obsession over these brothers whose second name is dangerously close to being pronounced as cock.
I think that's why people like bringing them up. The name is supposed to be pronounced Coke, just like Heckler & Koch. But people intentionally mispronounce it so they can make penis jokes.
Thought their name was pronounced "kotch."
Thought their name was pronounced "kotch."
If it's actually German (which I'm pretty sure it is, but they're of course American now so they've probably changed the ponunciation), it wouldn't be pronounced like that and the video also got it wrong. Pretty hard to explain how it would pronounced in German. Though Google Translate actually does a decent job, so if you're interested just check that out.
