• Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tells United States "Send your astronauts to the space station by tram
Facing sanctions from the United States government, a high-ranking Russian official took to Twitter today (April 29) to express his frustration, warning that NASA has few options should Soyuz flights to the International Space Station cease. “After analyzing the sanctions against our space industry, I suggest to the USA to bring their astronauts to the International Space Station using a trampoline,” wrote Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s deputy prime minister, in a Russian-language tweet highlighted by NBC News. The jibe points to the fact that only the Russians can bring crews up to the space station right now. Rogozin also linked to a story in Russian RT where he is quoted as saying (if Google Translate is correct) that the Americans will see a “boomerang” of sanctions laid upon Russian officials. The United States is dependent on the Russian Soyuz to bring astronauts to the space station. The U.S. method of transportation ceased in 2011 after the space shuttle retired, and commercial spacecraft — though being developed — are not expected to be ready until about 2017. The Russians are going to have to segregate the iss against the westerners like in space odyssey 2010
I can already see a new XKCD What If that explores whether, given the proper conditions, trampolines could possibly launch you into space.
And now "Build a trampoline big enough to jump into space" has been added to my bucket list.
I can already see a new XKCD What If that explores whether, given the proper conditions, trampolines could possibly launch you into space.
Even a hypothetical perfect trampoline can't do anything but return you the energy you land on it with. so to get to space off a trampoline you would have to already be moving at velocity of falling from the spot you want to get to. I suppose it might still help you by making smaller jumps repeatedly and building energy up, but even with perfect trampoline and infinite stamina, after few dozen meters you wouldn't be able to keep up with the air friction.
Ehhhh I give it a year or two before Blue Origin, Space X, etc.. have some viable launch vehicles ready to go.
That's alright, if ever Russia should need a ride they can find some buggies of ours ON THE MOON

The key is to accelerate once in space... On topic, didn't Russia already call dibs on its own parts of the ISS once it will be decommissioned? Fuck man even science and research is becoming subject of this retardation spergrace between NATO and Rus Rus. Fucking Rus Rus... fucking NATO...
Sooo does this mean we can have another Space Race? First one to colonize Mars wins?
warning that NASA has few options should Soyuz flights to the International Space Station cease.
good luck resupplying the RoS you scrubs, the progress vehicle requires an entire soyuz to launch and has very limited space constraints, meanwhile the dragon, HTV, Cygnus, and ATV can keep our crew freshly supplied for indefinitely
Ehhhh I give it a year or two before Blue Origin, Space X, etc.. have some viable launch vehicles ready to go.
Manned Dragon has to pass years of NASA requirements before they'll let it have people. Could be ready faster if they lightened the requirements. Its gonna do two launch abort tests this year. Should be launching crew by 2016.

Fucking Rus Rus... fucking NATO...
technically the ISS is divided into two segments, the Russian Orbital Segment and the U.S. segment, the Russian segment is intended to be joined to a new station in the 2020s but they neither have the funding or working rockets to launch it at the moment and i don't see that changing anytime soon. the U.S. segment is made of all the other segments sent up there, they are built by their respected nations but the U.S. took possession of them when we launched them so they are technically ours but we'd never really do anything like threaten to remove stuff.

"See, man. Your country is an asshole. This means no food for YOU and YOU" :v:
Sooo does this mean we can have another Space Race? First one to colonize Mars wins?
More like the entire global space program will crumble and nothing will get done for decades to come.
Sooo does this mean we can have another Space Race? First one to colonize Mars wins?
No, this just means Russia doesn't want to carpool with US anymore and the US has to buy his own car.
The Russians are going to have to segregate the iss against the westerners like in space odyssey 2010
they kinda already do this, the russia segment is only connected to the rest of the station by one small adapter and some power/coolant conduits, after all the russian segment is actually the pieces of Mir II
More like the entire global space program will crumble and nothing will get done for decades to come.
Yes, if Russia and the States don't pull together, the only thing we will colonize in the next 1000 years is our asshair crabs. [editline]30th April 2014[/editline] ASSHAIR CRABS DEPLOY
More like the entire global space program will crumble and nothing will get done for decades to come.
well france's space program will collapse since it relies entirely on soyuz-M rockets to suppliment their low production of arine IV's
The great british space empire will be born, we will colonize the stars and make those poor alien saps grow our tea for us.
Dear god tell me that woman isn't going to drive the shuttle!!
apparently once they stripped out the massive soviet era computers and guidance systems and electronics... its pretty roomy inside
If I recall correctly in a South American their a European launch pad. All I know about it is that it's guard by french foreign legion and that its been used for sending satellites. Does Europe send it's own personal to space or did they use US or RU to do that. As for the D-PM comments. I'd personally tell him to go fuck himself but, I know you can't tell a political to do that so. I'd probably cut political ties with Russia if the one this that you taught wouldn't be affect by a conflict between the two is.
As far as I know, the dragon capsule wouldn't need much modification to send astronauts to space. Of course if the US government needed or cared for the capacity (I believe that for most gov't officials, the ISS is a low priority sadly) they could aid SpaceX with additional funding and loan scientists and engineers to achieve that capacity within a few months.
We'd probably be better off with magrail space cannons anyway.

NASA required crewed vehicles to have launch abort systems which the cargo version doesn't have. SpaceX has been working on that for the past few years and are ready to debut it this year, but there's still a lot of NASA paperwork to do.
so to get to space off a trampoline you would have to already be moving at velocity of falling from the spot you want to get to.
What if the trampoline were moving instead? Could we reach orbit using net force? :v:
Won't be long till they fire some rockets at the ISS. Take that USA for putting sanctions on us :v:
