The daughter of a Mafia kingpin has filed $40 million lawsuit against the makers of Grand Theft Auto V claiming the the hit video game ripped off her life. Karen Gravano, who stars in the reality show Mob Wives and is the daughter Salvatore 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano, says her image and life story have been used without permission. The game features an animated character called Antonia Bottino, who Gravano claims is based on her. Her fictional father, former Gambetti family underboss Sammy (Sonny) Bottino, eventually became a snitch, acquiring many enemies. In the game he refuses to allow her to participate in a TV show called Wise Bitches, which Gravano claims is similar to the VH1 show Mob Wives she stars in. Sammy Bottino is widely believed to be based on Gravano's father, a Gambino underboss who became a turncoat, helping to bring down John Gotti.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2568222/Grand-Theft-Auto-V-ripped-life-story-Mob-Wives-star-daughter-gangster-sues-hit-video-game-makers-40-MILLION-claiming-character-based-her.html
clearly they did not steal her image
Isn't this the point of the disclaimer in front of pretty much every piece of fictional media ever? "Any resemblance between these characters and real persons is entirely coincidental."
clearly they did not steal her image
Found her
clearly they did not steal her image
Not physically, but the story behind the character and her story do have a lot of similarities.
It's like that one incident with the barber shop owner who tried the same thing. Didn't work out too hot for him either. [editline]27th February 2014[/editline]
Not physically, but the story behind the character and her story do have a lot of similarities.
read: entirely coincidental.
This apparently doesn't mean jack anymore Also lol once something is successful everybody wants a piece of the cake, remember that rapper?
Not physically, but the story behind the character and her story do have a lot of similarities.
unfortunately there's the whole "parody act" thing protecting R* even if there are a few inspired similarities.
read: entirely coincidental.
Just like how the show Law & Order says "the following story does not depict any actual person or event" when it literally is exactly what was in the press a few months earlier. The best one was the episode with Chevy Chase based on Mel Gibson's drunken rant about Jews.
unfortunately there's the whole "parody act" thing protecting R* even if there are a few inspired similarities.
surely you mean fortunately?
unfortunately there's the whole "parody act" thing protecting R* even if there are a few inspired similarities.
I'm not saying she's right in suing or should win any kind of reward but it's laughable to say the writers at R* are completely original in what they put into GTA, especially when the game is an entire satire of American crime.

holy shit i just had a deja vu about having a deja vu of this thread

You can sue anyone for anything, doesn't mean you'll win.
Aka, mommy wants some free sugar.
surely you mean fortunately?
oops, should have said 'unfortunately for her'
I'm not saying she's right in suing or should win any kind of reward but it's laughable to say the writers at R* are completely original in what they put into GTA, especially when the game is an entire satire of American crime.
please redirect your attention to the key word in my post parody act parody satire and references based on actual stuff is legal and in the case of GTA, integral to the style, locale, characters, story, and overall atmosphere of the game world. Trying to downplay Rockstar for unoriginality because they make references and tie-ins in a game like this is misguided
My girlfriend forces me to watch this show with her sometimes. It's fucking dreadful. It's so retarded and these "mob wives" are just pathetic, petty shallow people
