[quote](CNN) -- Tim Hetherington, an esteemed photojournalist and an Oscar nominee for a gritty and harrowing documentary about the Afghan war, was killed in the war-torn Libyan city of Misrata, the president of the agency that represented him said Wednesday.
Other photographers were reportedly hurt in the incident that killed him. Panos Pictures, which employed Hetherington, confirmed that the photographer's family had been notified.
"We're still trying to figure out front lines or house," said CSPR agency president Cathy Saypol in reference to where he was when killed. "The only thing we know is that he was hit by an RPG with the other guys." An RPG is a rocket-propelled grenade.
Hetherington's last Twitter entry appears to have been made on Tuesday: "In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. No sign of NATO."

Well, that "last twitter entry" thing sounds pretty dramatic
How many people have been killed in that conflict overall?

Rebels say 10,00 Killed & 50,000 injured on their side but there's no independent verification.

As I said there's no independent verification such as evidence of mass graves so it's most likely beefed up to speed up the NATO operation.

You will never get a zing rating.

Made my heart sink.
wow.... was just watching interviews with this guy and the other director of restrepo the other day and now i read he is dead... :( RIP
My condolences :smith:
That's sad, but that's the risk he took. He had balls for video taping a dangerous area with people fighting, and taking that risk of being killed.
who uses rpg's against infantry
you do when you have PGV7s specifically ment to send shrapnel into your enemy and blow his legs off

"RPG" is a way too generic term, afaik there are warheads that are basically long range frag grenades designed for anti personal use.
Its a real shame he has been killed, A lot of his photos have been impressive and have really captured historic moments.
That's terrible, must have been a blast getting nominated for an Oscar though.
Fuck, Restrepo was a good documentary. RIP.
