Burkhas are stupid; the only time they should be valid is in a harsh desert, for purposes of protecting against sandstorms and the beating rays of searing desert sun. And even then they should be unisex.
And even THEN, why not just have those scarf-like headwraps like you see in Lawrence of Arabia? I don't know the exact name of them, but those headwraps seem like they'd be good head protection against sun and sand.
Living in a Middle Eastern country I can confirm that this is what goes for 'politics' around here.

Uh, well actually, seeing as Muslim women became so suppressed because they were held on such a high pedestal, Muslim men generally aren't thinking "hmmm, how can we oppress women today?"
The whole idea of hiding women is to hide temptation from men. Like I said, instead of teaching men to control themselves, they hide what they perceive to be the problem.
Female inequality is a little less direct than your concrete mind would like to think. Obviously there are exceptions to everything, but it's nothing short of completely asinine to suggest that an entire culture embraced and institutionalized outright sadism.
