Hes totally right, this is just going to make video's untrustworthy and falsely show what the game is about, simply because they would gain more money if they positively showed it. It's a bad idea.
It'll just add the general un-trustworthiness in the video game industry with early access, pre-ordering, this crap, rehashing of games, broken development promises, etc.
It's like they are imploring "game developers" to half-ass or never complete their games because they know massive amounts of misinformed people will purchase it as if it were complete anyways.
Where do I buy that Nerdcubed coin?
he's wrong about it taking away money from developers
if that channel wouldn't have done coverage otherwise and boosts sales substantially then the developer makes money they wouldn't have had other wise
Eh, i'm less worried about the yogscast screwing over developers and more worried about how they think that playing small-time games means they're losing out on income in the first place
why oh why does having fun need to be such a business
Goddamn, youtube has become a pyramid scheme. I want in on dat money.

Of the scale Yogs are the difference between two games could be a few thousand dollars for a single video. It's not like it's them being picky, but you often do have to plan which content will get the best traffic.
That said, I hate this YogsDiscovery deal. I think it's complete bullshit. Nerd's point of where if the game does well even without their influence, they get paid, is the biggest issue.
Also I'm with machinima and they can go fuck themselves for pushing midrolls without our consent. Even my contract says nothing about it.
Midrolls are just another reason why I will never again browse without some form of adblock. At some point you just give up trying to give things a chance.
In terms of the actual content, great, now we have validated reasons for suspecting everyone on youtube of shilling. Who the fuck are you supposed to go to for actual reviews anymore?

He's referring to YogsDiscovery, which I've only just learned about after watching this video. In short, a game developer pays a percentage of their sales to Yogscast to do a Let's Play for them. That's why he's saying it's taking money from developers.

Lets say they pay yogurt 5% of the "boost in sales" and yet that video boosts their sales 6%. that means they get .3% of the total sales. they're getting paid shit in comparison. mean while the developer walks away with 5.7% more revenue.
don't get me wrong, i get what nerd3 is saying by "literally anything could've made sales spike" but that's a gamble the devs are taking. they could just pay up front but they're betting the sales % will be less. and also less of a gamble.

It's not the youtuber's fault. I know that doesn't solve your problem, but I had to disable midrolls on hundreds of videos today. The networks are being cunts. They say "We saw a rise of 33% in revenue with no drop in viewers" but it pisses people off. It's my fucking choice, and it's not in the contract.

The issue Nerd3 and most other major channels are bringing up is the fact that the content creators already typically get a free copy of the game and monetization rights. It's a win win. Everyone benefits on their own terms. Devs get more publicity, and content creators are allowed to make money off their recorded content and typically a free copy of the game or copies for give-a-ways and also the dev can promote the videos.
The issue is that any boost in sales ends up spread out among people in the yogdiscovery system. That's why many people have a problem with it, and as TB put it in a soundcloud audio log, it could be construed as illegal depending how it plays out. Yogs has said that videos in the program will be labeled as such, but it's still entirely possible that games in the program will be played up to be more fun. Hell, when I speak too much to a developer before doing coverage on their game I feel like I have to make it look good sometimes. And I have no financial standing in it.

I'm not saying it's your fault. I'm saying nothing beyond it being yet another reason on a huge list of reasons that make me completely and utterly uninterested in ever even contemplating turning off my ad blocking software.

I'm pretty sure them doing that would give you a legal hole to get out of the contract if you so desired.

Remember when they did those videos on gmod? I think I remember seeing garry say that boosted the sales by a lot more than just 6%

It also boosted the amount of ten year olds on Gmod by at least 60%

Which from a business perspective is really nice.
