MGS4 was a really good game and felt like an ending to a serious where MGSV felt like it was just another game in the serious and in fact was looking to make more sequels

To be fair, I'm pretty sure MGSV wanted to end, but due to Konami's interference it never got one. I wouldn't doubt that it would have gotten an even more definite finish had it been, well, ya know, finished.

From the leftovers of chapter 3 we saw, it looked like it was gonna be a pretty good ending aswell.
A shame, really.

Nobody really talks about it, do they? I haven't seen much besides the Episode 51 thing.
There was this one post on FP where somebody laid it out, though, and that was quite interesting. Shame I lost it, though.

You seem to be very series about all this.

I think the feel of the combat in MGSV is better but that game was a reptitive snoozefest. MGS 4 had much more interesting scenes in my opinion.

If we're talking about actual gameplay, yeah it was bar none the best MGS in the series. If we're talking about story though and setting, hell no. Stealth in a battlefield is a 100x better than what we got with MGS5. When I got MGS5 I was expecting something more like Ground Zeroes but instead I got a open world game with jack shit in between outposts and missions.
The story of MGS4 might have been nothing but fan service but at least there was a story. What was the story about MGS5 again? I cant' even remember.
this is good, right?
3 > 5 > 4 > PW > 2=1
I put 2 and 1 at the bottom cause those are the ones I've played the least and I like them equally.
There is no bad MGS. They're all fantastic games on their own merits. (cannon series, the ones Kojima considers to be true MGS games)
PoOps?

Each had its ups and downs
MGSV had better gameplay by far, which isn't really a surprise, and it had an ok open world.
Why just ok?
Because it kind of falls on its knees after you've done almost everything, and its where MGS4 did well imo.
Despite having a big open world, you can't really do all that much to it. It's mostly empty and useless.
MGS4's levels weren't empty at all, both in detail and in encounters or gameplay points of view. Every corner served a purpose. Is it a much smaller world? Yes, but that doesn't means its bad, especially in comparison to MGSV that gives you a world where you walk more than you shoot. In this case, MGS4 just loses on a few aspects of the gameplay, which isn't unusual being the older game, but imo its still really great.
In terms of story, MGS4 sort of stands between good and bad.
On one hand, you got the final showdown and that legendary ending and stuff of that level, but then you have the B&B weirdos, which imo makes everything just awkward. And Act 3 is more of a chore than anything else. As said, yes, it has fanservice. But I don't see it like that. I see it as giving actual endings. Except for the marriage.
MGSV has the problems we know about. It's ending is kind of unfinished, and the story itself is ok at best. The parasite things are kind of a boring plot device, although they generate some nice scenes here and there. I didn't really dislike the "zombies" and the quarantine facility part is pretty good, despite it could had been better pieced together...
The characters also kind of suffer a bit here. Ocelot isn't the Ocelot we all know and love, and that's a big nono. Characters in MGS4, aside from "I AM LIGHTNING, RAIN TRANSFORMED", are pretty cool I guess.
If you were to ask me which game I'd replay? Without a doubt MGS4.
MGSV gets repetitive within even the first playthrough you do of it, and there are way too many factors that help towards that.
I'd sooner replay all the past games twice before replaying MGSV, due to just how disconnected you get from the story in V. Almost as if V didn't need to exist.
i teared up at this entirely because mgs4's ending was that good. only way it could've been better was if snake and otacon got executed to "here's to you" like in the original planned ending

mgs 2 is still a better story game (and i would argue one of the best games of all time)
