Source
When President Obama condemned Arizona’s draconian and potentially unconstitutional immigration law last Friday, he predicted that “if we continue to fail to act [on immigration] at a federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts to open up across the country.” Indeed, it’s already happening. Last week, Wonk Room reported on the involvement of the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) — the legal arm of a designated nativist-extremist hate group — in drafting Arizona’s controversial immigration law. IRLI lawyer Michael Hethmon boasting about being “approached by lawmakers from four other states who have asked for advice on how they can do the same thing.” In the aftermath of the passage of Arizona’s law, many states and localities across the country are in fact in the middle of or about to embark on copy cat pieces of legislation: The more controversial and problematic a law is, the more IRLI lawyers stand to make if they’re involved. Since September 2006, Farmer’s Branch has spent $3.2 million on the legal fight and may have to spend an additional $1.13 million. In Arizona, IRLI lawyer Kris Kobach makes about $300 per hour to train Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s officers in immigration matters. Kobach has kept busy because Arpaio is currently the subject of a racial profiling investigation by the Department of Justice and has 2,700 lawsuits sitting on his desk as a result of his immigration policing tactics. Arizona might be their biggest profit-making venture yet considering the fact that civil rights activists are confident the new law will make it to the Supreme Court and there is even talk of the federal government suing the state of Arizona. However, IRLI’s gain is Arizona’s loss. Not only will Arizona’s legislation cost the state in terms of litigation fees, if the law succeeds in reaching its goal of ridding the state of undocumented immigrants, it’s estimated that Arizona will lose $26.4 billion in economic activity, $11.7 billion in gross state product, and approximately 140,324 jobs.
Oh, come on. I don't want to have to pay for people who illegally entered the U.S. I hope that this law comes into use all across the country. They're illegals! Do we give thieves and murderers a cuddle and a milkshake? Of course not, we imprison them! (Although in a lavish prison.) We should get these illegal peeps out of the country.
Need to put them in a truck and ship them back to where they came from, if they want in bad enough, they can do it legally. My Grandparents did.
We should get these illegal peeps out of the country.
Do you want our agricultural economy to collapse? Do you want to pay 10 times what you do now for produce?
Do you want our agricultural economy to collapse? Do you want to pay 10 times what you do now for produce?
Because only illegal immigrants are allowed to farm in America

*sigh* Why isn't New Jersey considering such things? We need it. :frown:
Like I said in the other thread, the cops duties should be ask for proper identification, including papers legalizing their stay here in america. E.g. visa, passport, etc. Cops should not be given the right to pull anyone over just because "they look Mexican."
I always thought the smartest approach would be to help another country in Central or South America become a sort of booming economic power, similar to China today. A country undergoing economic growth requires labor. This will attract the immigrants. If you were a Spanish speaking immigrant looking for work, would you rather go to a country of white people who hate you or exploit you, or at least to a country where people look and talk like you? Instead we, the US, have pretty much ignored those countries as long as they don't try to turn communist. Instead we buy our crap from China, which does not help us fight illegal immigration. In fact, the Chinese send over some too.
Do you want our agricultural economy to collapse? Do you want to pay 10 times what you do now for produce?
Ever heard of legal immigrants?
Ever heard of legal immigrants?
It isn't the legal immigrants picking your lettuce, buddy.
Maryland doesn't need this.
Restricting illegal immigrants is good and all but there needs to be an equal effort to make it not near-impossible to get into the USA to find work legitimately
It isn't the legal immigrants picking your lettuce, buddy.
Every single farmhand is illegal then?
It isn't the legal immigrants picking your lettuce, buddy.
They should at least expedite their greencard status.
Every single farmhand is illegal then?
lol, most of them are. do you think agriculture products would be so cheap if every farmhand was paid the minimum wage?
Do you want our agricultural economy to collapse? Do you want to pay 10 times what you do now for produce?
That's actually a myth. Most illegals actually DO NOT do agricultural labor. They used too, however now illegals are more commonly picking Office jobs or going unemployed. I'm not a racist, I simply don't believe that illegal immigrants should be tolerated. I would be perfectly fine with them coming to America if they: A) Learned English. B) Lived here for several years on a Working Visa before deciding to stay permanently. C) Learned basic American History Or, they could always join the Military, which is those three put together really. The facts are: Most illegals who come here refuse to learn English(and there have been "walk-outs" in the past, where Mexican students refused to learn English and American history in American public schools because it was "wrong".) Illegals don't pay any sort of tax, while taking advantage of Public Education, National Defense, Food Stamps and welfare.
Every single farmhand is illegal then?
In the Southwestern states, pretty much yeah.
lol, most of them are. do you think agriculture products would be so cheap if every farmhand was paid the minimum wage?

In the Southwestern states, pretty much yeah.
And you two have statistical proof of this?
This is dumb and it won't solve anything. It's just shit designed to make people feel better and elect people.
This is dumb and it won't solve anything. It's just shit designed to make people feel better and elect people.
That's what every legislation is anymore :v:
Maryland doesn't need this.
Keep out illegal Europeans?
That's what every legislation is anymore :v:
it's a joke
Do you want our agricultural economy to collapse? Do you want to pay 10 times what you do now for produce?
PROBLEM(S): Illegal immigrants working low-income American jobs, American Citizens are unemployed (not necessarily linked) WHY THESE ARE A PROBLEM: Because their employers must pay them 'under the table', most illegal immigrants pay NO taxes, yet reap all the benefits. If they aren't there to fill in these jobs, make no mistake, citizens will pick up where they left off. SOLUTION: Kick as many illegals out as you can. WHAT THIS DOES: Americans fill in now-open jobs. Paid actual wages, even if low. They pay taxes. Unemployment goes down, government receives more money.
That's actually a myth. Most illegals actually DO NOT do agricultural labor. They used too, however now illegals are more commonly picking Office jobs or going unemployed.
Maryland doesn't need this.
Are you joking? Seriously? Whenever I drive out to Home Depot (or any large DiY store), there's a score of people standing at one end of the lot, waiting for work. I've seen people come along and pick them up for it, too. I also saw the cops drive there once. It was for something completely unrelated, yet every single person who was there waiting for work bolted off as soon as the cops pulled into the lot. I live in Silver Spring, by the way. Yes, this is a problem. There are several known gangs who cause serious drug-related problems. EDIT: Who are known to be composed of illegals.
Illegals don't pay any sort of tax, while taking advantage of Public Education, National Defense, Food Stamps and welfare.
Pretty sure you have to be a citizen to get food stamps or welfare. [editline]07:23PM[/editline] And their kids can't get into public school unless they were born in the US.
