News is half a day old, but didn't see a thread. http://blog.dota2.com/2015/09/coming-soon-the-reborn-update/
With The International behind us and the Majors just around the corner, we are excited to have the world start playing Dota in the brand-new Source 2 engine. Within the coming weeks, the main client will receive the Reborn Update. Moving away from the Source 1 engine soon will allow us to better focus our efforts entirely on Source 2 in preparation for various upcoming tournaments. There are still a few features that will need some work when the update is released, but we plan to finish them quickly. Expect the weeks that follow to focus on ironing out issues, refining the dashboard and iterating based on your feedback. Afterwards, we’ll begin shifting our attention toward the in-game UI, where we plan to redesign the HUD and work on a variety of other in-game features. Today’s update to Reborn contains various bug fixes and improvements, as well as a large number of backend changes that result in a very large one-time download. Now would be a good time for everyone to start downloading the Reborn update, as you will not need to download it again when the main client receives the update in the coming weeks. If you do not have the Reborn update installed and would like to get a head start on it now, launch the Dota client and head over to the Play Tab to get set up. All of your items are now in the Reborn client, and after today any new content will be added directly to Source 2 only.
CS:GO please
TF2 please, it would contribute a lot to the modding community.
They said no. It would take too much effort.
TF2 needs it the most. Its held together by duct-tape and chewing gum atm.
TF2 please, it would contribute a lot to the modding community.
Not before 2020
TF2 needs it the most. Its held together by duct-tape and chewing gum atm.
Tf2 concurrent player base isn't nearly as massive as dota though. Improve where the dosh flows in, y'know?
Are they going to do CS:GO?
They said no. It would take too much effort.
where did they say this
Are they going to do CS:GO?
Maybe next in line if anything for a hybridization but a debut title is more likely such as L4D3 than another hybridization.
where did they say this
The only thing I recall is the competitive guys including Enigma saying Valve said it won't happen anytime soon, since they don't see an immediate need for it. Then later Enigma said a Valve dev said it's not coming. But I don't know if this was in regards to their earlier visit or a new one.
sounds like a bunch of hearsay

Port Left 4 Dead 2
TF2 needs it the most. Its held together by duct-tape and chewing gum atm.
Problem is thats the thing. TF2 would be a literal bitch to port over to source 2, considering it's version of source is literally numerous updates slapped on top each other since it came out. Anyways, more waiting for Left 4 dead 3 to come out, or any other source 2 game so we at least have a decent worth a shit version of SFM 2 to use.
If they ever consider "porting over" TF2, rather than alter the game itself and tangle with the mishmash of updates piled on top of it, it'd probably make more sense and maybe take less work to build it anew in Source 2, with all the content of TF2 "Classic Source" being implemented in a way that didn't comprise hundreds of patches over several years. It could have its own client and all, although they'd also need to have a system that allows players of TF2 "Classic Source" to transfer all of their progress from the old client to the new Source 2 client, so they won't have to re-grind all of those hats and items from nearly 8 years of mercenaries and hat-simulations. That said, due to Valve's "I do what I feel like" structure, it'd all depend on whether or not the Team Fortress team has the interest and motivation to rebuild the entire game in Source 2.
Port Left 4 Dead 2
I'd say do what L4D2 did and make L4D3 first, then gradually port everything onto that.
They said no. It would take too much effort.
If they actually said that, it's pretty disappointing considering how little valve has done (themselves. not turtle rock or hp)
Maybe next in line if anything for a hybridization but a debut title is more likely such as L4D3 than another hybridization.
I'm really hoping for a L4D3. Playing through the older games made me realize how much I missed mapping for it. A new game would actually make the series relevant again.
The L4D community is quickly falling out of relevance due to decreasing mod and mapping support each year. We need L4D3 more than a port of a current game.
What makes you think L4D3 will have increased mod support?
Hell, port Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Source 2 and open up modding on it in more than just maps and skins with external stuff as per usual. You'd probably see people go batshit with that stuff in a matter of weeks or months.
please fix it first, literally half my inventory is missing on reborn still for some weird reason.
Nah fuck that. Day Of Defeat source is in need of some loving.
pit lord pls
Half life 2 port when? Just improve textures, touch up the maps, and merge like 10 into 1 to cut off loading times and it's good to go
Half-Life: Source: Source 2 please.
Half life 2 port when? Just improve textures, touch up the maps, and merge like 10 into 1 to cut off loading times and it's good to go
Source 2 supports map streaming so I believe you would not need to merge maps together.
I'm really hoping for a L4D3. Playing through the older games made me realize how much I missed mapping for it. A new game would actually make the series relevant again.
Yeah, with enough level variety Left 4 Dead 3 could turn out pretty great. While the main shtick of the missions is that you're trying to escape the area, I'd be interested in seeing maybe a touch of building defences and a theme of "the tide turning" as the Infected mutate more and more, yet the Survivors are now forced to be on the offensive. Storywise, the Survivors of both games (sans Bill) would have been rescued and isolated as carriers by a military splinter faction. After much discussion and use of their tissue samples to help research a possible cure, the men in charge of the Carrier Base decide to use the Survivors as "scouts" in the infected areas, on account of their immunity to the virus and their experiences dealing with the more advanced "mutants". Thus, the Survivors become "rangers" of sorts, being dropped off in zones of interest to the Carrier Base in the hopes of acquiring more supplies and ordinance, as well as searching for other potential Survivors that the government had left for dead.
What makes you think L4D3 will have increased mod support?
I didn't say it would. But I'm hoping it will. I merely said that L4D3 will re-vitalize the community. Plus it will allow me to make my masterpiece.
Nah fuck that. Day Of Defeat source is in need of some loving.
Ricochet didn't even get ported to Source, it needs an update the most.
