Imagine if you could perform daily activities from a third person view watching everything you do every step of the way. With the Avatar Machine created by Marc Owens, you can actually get a third person view of the world around you. “Avatar Machine is a system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head-mounted interface,” says Owens' Vimeo page. The machine is a VR suit constructed with a camera that hovers behind the user. This camera gives the user a third person view of the world that can be seen through the suit’s headset. It also seems to have gotten an overhaul from the puffy suit iterations seen before. Check out the video here. Owens' site says that the Avatar Machine “potentially allows for a diminished sense of social responsibility and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment.” If you had access to this suit, what would you do (other than look ridiculous)?
Source: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/11/30/Avatar-Machine-Brings-Third-Person-View.aspx So, if you have absolutely no shame or an extremist when it comes to anime (the suits actually do look like they belong on characters in Final Fantasy) or computer technology, you may want to try this out. Videos of the suit in action here and here [sp]How am I late? Because of the videos? Hell, this article just got published today.[/sp]
Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahah
"I can see myself being beaten up because I'm wearing an Avatar Machine... IN THIRD PERSON!!!"
Too bad you can't go through any doors :(
Some people take video games too far.
That must be incredibly disorienting.
wow...
that camera looks shaky as hell
I really don't get what the point of this is.
Hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahah
My first thought was, "How the hell could one possibly recreate this experience?" and then when I saw it, I then thought "Wow. They did a horrible fucking job on it."
Hahaha... what the hell. :v:
I get a backpack and something over eyes, but have you really have to look like a total idiot because of the rest of the suit?
That must be incredibly disorienting.
Yeah, the user would probably end up flailing his arms around trying to grab onto stuff that seems close enough to touch.
Why did they choose spiky hair? WHY?
The sad part is that the fact that you're wearing the avatar machine means all you'll ever get to see is yourself looking like a giant tool.
good luck seeing shit in front of you, you big dumb weeaboo
Does it zoom in when you look down your weapon? Because that's a sale tbh
First thing that came to mind.
The sad part is that the fact that you're wearing the avatar machine means all you'll ever get to see is yourself looking like a giant tool.
Pretty sure the last line sums it up:
If you had access to this suit, what would you do (other than look ridiculous)?
Why did they add all that spiky shit on it? It makes you look like a faggot.
Why can't they use a simple mini computer box with a webcam?
That actually sounds kinda interesting, I'd be willing to try that out.
Why did they make the camera directly behind him instead of above and behind him so he can actually see where he's going.
That's so fucking stupid. [editline]01:25PM[/editline]
Why did they make the camera directly behind him instead of above and behind him so he can actually see where he's going.
Because it'd look even stupider.
Why did they make the camera directly behind him instead of above and behind him so he can actually see where he's going.
-snip- Never mind, I understand it now.
and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment
Including, but not limited to, looking and walking like a colossal bellend.
I'd like to sneak up behind the camera, hook a rope onto it and give it a solid tug Or sneak up IN FRONT of them and kick them
I'd like to sneak up behind the camera, hook a rope onto it and give it a solid tug
Impossible! With that camera, you wouldn't be able to ninja his ass! Does this mean the end of ninjas? :ninja: [sp]/sarcasm[/sp]
It must be pretty weird seeing yourself in third person though. Even without looking like a tool.
Honestly, I think the closest thing to trying out 3rd person is to just do it in any Valve game. We get so used to 1st person, that if we tried 3rd, it would a definite out of body experience.
