Ubisoft: We need to stop releasing a Assassins Creed Game every year
Aside from a two-year gap between Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2, the series has seen a new full game released for ever year of its existence. With Revelations just around the corner and another game – the last in Ezio’s story – confirmed for 2012, isn’t it about time Ubisoft took a step back and stopped hammering the franchise – especially given how little seems to change between each iteration?
It turns out, Ubisoft themselves agree. The company’s Rafael Lacoste acknowledged that even though the franchise is likely to continue after next year, it’s time to take a step back and work on something fresh.
“I think we have a nice process, a nice workflow,” he said in a feature published on VG247. “But [...] I think we need to step back, to maybe take more time to do something fresh.”
He added: “It’s still a big challenge, but we could make it with a little more time.”
The thing is, he said, people simply really like the Assassin’s Creed games, and there’s obviously demand within the market for a new game as quickly as possible. Besides, it’s not like the games’ quality has suffered: each continues to be a fine example of its genre.
“If you make comparisons to television series; if the story’s good, they care about the characters and it’s compelling, they’re not going to complain when a seasonal TV series comes out every year, right?” he suggested. “That’s not to say Assassin’s Creed will come out every year, but we feel like the momentum of ACII, AC Brotherhood and now AC Revelations will create a complete picture of Ezio’s life and also touch upon Altair. That’s something we wanted to do and we think the fans will enjoy it.”
But he acknowledged that such a regular release schedule is a “double-edged sword”, and explained that in the future annual updates would only happen if there were “a compelling reason” to make them.
Wasn't there a thread a few months back where they said that they wanted to do annual AC games?
To be fair, the AC games have stayed pretty strong dispite the release shedule. Still, more time can only mean better things!
After brotherhood I will certainly not be buying revelations, I'll wait until the next proper release.
Yessss.
Hopefully the next AC game (the one after Revelation) has a lot more content, Brotherhood was disappointingly short and only had a handful of new features.
after the one after revelations they are going to stop releasing yearly.
Need to stop delaying PC game by a month and adding intrusive and crap DRM that affects legit customers*
Ubisoft need to stop doing a lot of things. Will they? Probably not.
They should just get over with the Italian guys story, it went stale half way through brother hood, move on to a new character ffs. Something revolutionary war era, or WWII era.

Revelations ins the last game about Ezio.
:ninja:
When I think about how the AC games have been releasing yearly since 2 came out, and that there not that good. Then I remember, they are fucking awesome to play. Though really, more time between release would be nice, have even beat brotherhood yet.
now if only CoD still cared about quality...

Well as long as they don't go all Duke Nukem Forever, regarding time between new releases.
Title makes it sound like a drug addiction.
I didn't really mind the yearly releases of AC though, it wasn't rehashed shit every time. (ahem COD)
The thing is I was happy with Brotherhood because I knew it wasn't supposed to be the NEXT BIGGEST THING in the AC story and that it was a continuation of ACII. After Revelations I really hope I won't see AC for a while so ACIII will get the respect it deserves.

Brotherhood had the best gameplay in the series as of yet. Why?
Release Revelations to finish out Ezio's story then come back with a strong new title. I like the sound of that.
They are.. Revelation is the last one with Ezio in it.
Nope.
With Revelations just around the corner and another game – the last in Ezio’s story – confirmed for 2012
Says there that Revelations isn't the last game with Ezio in it.
Sadly Activision won't follow their footsteps.
EDIT:
I want to see at least 2-3 years of actual work into it, though, I really need to get into AC.
and another game – the last in Ezio’s story – confirmed for 2012
What? Are you kidding me?
What? Are you kidding me?
Yeah I just saw that. I think it's a typo Revelations is supposed to be the last of Ezio
Yeah I just saw that. I think it's a typo Revelations is supposed to be the last of Ezio
Yeah I certainly hope so. I don't mind a third game with Ezio but a fourth is totally unreasonable, especially considering the insane potential of this franchise.
They should just get over with the Italian guys story, it went stale half way through brother hood, move on to a new character ffs. Something revolutionary war era, or WWII era.
Revolutionary War? There weren't really cities big enough to be fun to play in.
Even New York had very few multistory buildings, and they were more spread out than most European cities.

Italy works great for Assassin's Creed because it's been a crowded mess of tall buildings for thousands of years.
They also need to stop treating PC gamers like shit, but I doubt either are going to happen anytime soon.
If they stop doing annual releases they better not leave it on some amazing cliffhanger like Brotherhood :v:
Nope.

So are we gonna keep playing until he has IV needles and breathing tubes hooked up to O2 tanks on his back?
One is asia would be kind of cool, if they didn't make it super weeabo-ninja and instead went for a historically accurate approach.
2 was the last one I played and it was excellent.
If they stop doing annual releases they better not leave it on some amazing cliffhanger like Brotherhood :v:
I wouldn't really call it an amazing cliffhanger, it's just [sp]The death of a totally one-note character that I'm sure no one will miss.[/sp]. At most Desmond will just be really dark and brooding in the next game (which should be really fun to watch :rolleye:).
Assassin's Creed is the best series that I've played from ubisoft that was actually good in my opinion.
The thing about the assassin's creed games is that they have really strong stories
so I don't mind as much on the yearly releases.
yeah nothing much is new, but don't fix what ain't broken
