I wrote this story for mythology class, we had to make up a hero and put in the 6 parts in a hero story. After looking over it there are tons of run-ons and such but ignore it, I'm sure you've seen much worse. Chapter One: The Call from Action The phone rang, Epicdom rolled over in his bed and groaned reaching his hands out blindly for his alarm clock, he found, it was three AM. Epicdom got up from his bed, rubbing his eyes; he then turned on the light. The phone stopped ringing, Epicdom stood up and stretched and began his journey to the kitchen phone as it began to ring again. Ye, he triumphed many trials, such as The Great Upturned Carpet Edge, that tried to trip Epicdom as he was traveling through the fabled hallway of Mediocre. When he reached his kitchen phone he saw that there were 231 messages. He reached for the phone; it stopped ringing, and then began to ring again. Epicdom picked up the phone, “Hello?” There was a slight pause on the other end, then an odd laughter of some sort. Then someone said, “It’s time.” Epicdom was confused, but then said, “Who’s this? Time for what?” “Oh sorry, wrong number,” said the man on the other end of the phone. Then the phone disconnected, and Epicdom hung it up. He turned to go use the bathroom, and then the phone rang again. Epidom picked it up. “Hello?” “It’s time,” said the same man who had just called. “Nope, still wrong number,” said Epicdom, humored by the caller’s ignorance. “Oh sorry, thought I had it this time.” The phone flat-lined and Epicdom pressed END. Before he had a chance to hang the phone up, it rang again, and he answered it. “Hello?” “It’s time,” said the same person who had called before, in the same ominous tone. Epicdom sighed then said, “Look dude, you have the wrong number, and I’m pretty sure you’re the one who left me 231 messages. The guy probably gave you the wrong number.” There was a pause on the other end, “Is this Epicdom?” “Uh, yeah, wait… How do you know my name?” “Well you gave me your phone number the other night, I was talking to you about a job and you said you were interested.” “Oh, is this Action?” asked Epicdom, now fully awake. “Yes, I am Action.” Chapter Two: The Golden Rapier and the Aluminum Shield A dramatic immaculate chorus rang out from somewhere, and Epicdom looked around to see where it was coming from. It ended as soon as Action began to talk again, “Meet me at the McDonald’s on north Olympus Ave.” “Do I need to bring anything?” “What do you mean?” “You know, like running shoes, gloves, or anything like that?” asked Epicdom. “Umm…” Action thought for a minute. “Nope, can’t think of anything you actually need.” “Alright then I’m on my way.” Epicdom grabbed his Moped keys then ate some Rice Krispy cereal, which was part of a nutritious breakfast. He walked out the door into the morning. He started up his moped, breaking the silence with its puttering sound. He rode off into the night. The McDonald’s was three miles north up Admiratio street, then a right onto Olympus Ave. He was riding up Admiratio Street to the railroad tracks, the lights started to flash, there was a train coming. Epicdom didn’t have time to wait for a train so he sped up, racing towards the flashing lights. He began to race over the tracks with the guard rail on the opposite side began to lower. Epicdom took a very sharp right turn to avoid the lowering arm; his front tire fell between the rails and the pavement. The Moped came to an immediate halt, sending Epicdom over the handles and into the grass. It only took Epicdom only a few seconds to recover before running back to claim his moped before the train did first. The moped was caught in the middle of the railroad tracks. Epicdom looked around, and he knew there was no turning back, he yanked on the moped, and it didn’t budge. He heard the sound of drums, he could have sworn it was the beating of his heart; he then looked to the right to see the train thundering down the railroad tracks toward him. Epicdom gave it one last yank, nothing. Epicdom back up about ten feet and watched as his moped was torn apart accompanying it was a sound so loud, it seemed like thunder struck. The train must have gone through Texas, since there was a cargo box with the state of Texas drawn on the side. Epicdom looked down Admiratio Street; he only had two blocks to go. Epicdom began to jog down the road. He made it to the corner when two dogs jumped out of the alley. They looked to big to be domestic dogs, but they did not look anything like a wolf, or a coyote. They snarled and gnashed their teeth. Epicdom had no idea what to do as the vicious dogs began to flank him from both sides. The dogs were now on each side of Epicdom. Epicdom looked around for anything he could use, there wasn’t anything, but an old style trashcan, he saw the lid to it and had an idea. Epicdom leaped for the trashcan lid as the dogs walked closer, snarling, they followed him. Epicdom grabbed the trashcan lid by its handle and held it up as a shield when one of the dogs leapt towards him. The dog slammed into the trashcan lid forcing Epicdom to stumble backwards into a fence. The same dog leapt again, but this time Epicdom was better prepared for it. Again the dog slammed against the trashcan lid, Epicdom pushed forward and down with the trashcan lid, slamming the dog to the ground. Epicdom began to beat the dog with the edge of the trashcan lid when he incapacitated it. Epicdom didn’t have time to pat himself on the back, the second dog was upon him, it leapt before Epicdom was able to lift the lid, and the dog snapped its jaws around Epicdom’s left arm. He beat the dog with the trashcan lid but the dog didn’t loosen its grip, as a matter of fact it tore more viciously at Epicdom’s arm. Epicdom’s arm was bleeding badly; he dropped the trashcan lid, and with his right arm began to pummel the dog on the head with his fist. With his seventh thrust of his fist upon the dog’s head, the dog released its grip and stumbled then fell over. Epicdom looked at his arm, there were several gashes where the dog had tore left to right with its jaws. Epicdom then looked around, the night was silent again, he picked up the trashcan lid, it had helped him, and so he decided to take it with him. Epicdom rounded the corner onto Olympus Avenue; there the twenty-four hour fast food joint looked like a bright sanctuary from the dark night. Epicdom, with new found energy, ran towards the McDonald’s. Epicdom nearly rammed through the McDonald’s doors, he looked left and right to only see a long box case with a letter attached to it sitting on a nearby table. He walked up to the table and picked up the note. Dear Epicdom, There has been a terrible incident, the town of Periculum has been attacked by a terrible creature by the name of Letum, and he has unleashed his deadly fury upon the town for imprisoning him underground. You are our only hope. We have watched you for some time; you have shown that you have the ability to relinquish this evil from our town. Take this Golden Rapier; it will aid you in the fight against Letum. Go west to the town, but beware, Letum is aware that we have sent you; he may try and stop you. Do not fear him; you have the strength to conquer whatever he has to throw at you. Sincerely, Action Potentia Epicdom put down the letter, then picked up the box, he opened it, in there lay a Golden Rapier, the blade was solid gold, it was heavy, but strong. In the hand guard of the Rapier was Epicdom’s name engraved in it. Below the sword lie a sheath belt, Epicdom wrapped the belt around his waste and put the sword in the sheath. Chapter 3: The Sea and the Steed Epicdom walked out into the street and began to walk westward; it was still dark outside, and still silent. He walked until the Olympus Avenue turned into a dirt road at the town’s border. He stopped to sit on a tree stump on the side of the road; he took off his converse shoes and rubbed his feet. As he was putting his shoes back one he heard a neighing of a horse, he looked around and saw nothing. Although there was a barn a little of the side of the road, Epicdom had no time to check it out. So Epicdom began to walk west again to his destination. It wasn’t long after that Epicdom heard the pounding of hooves on the ground; he turned to see a black as night horse running down the road towards him, behind the horse, raced five of the devilish dogs he had fought before. When the horse was within 10 feet of him, Epicdom side stepped out of the horse’s way, the dogs didn’t follow. The dogs came to a halt then began surround Epicdom. Epicdom unsheathed his rapier, holding it awkwardly in his right hand as he used the trashcan lid to protect his already wounded arm. He swung the sword at the dogs that advanced; a brave dog was unfazed by the swinging of the sword and leapt at Epicdom. Epicdom, raised his aluminum shield and smacked the dog down with it, he then took the rapier in his right hand to slice downward upon the dog’s neck, severing its head. Once again Epicdom could not relent; the other dogs were now close, only five feet away surrounding him. Then there was a pounding sound, Epicdom and the dogs looked up and down the road as the black horse was charging towards them. The horse leapt over two of the dogs and brought down its back legs on one of the dogs. The dog’s yelp swallowed by the sound of its ribs cracking. The horse turned back at Epicdom and the dogs trotted up to one of the dogs, as the dog went to pounce, the horse brought up its front legs and ended the dog in front of it. Using the opportunity, Epicdom thrust his rapier into the side of one of the remaining startled dogs. The dog yelped and then turned towards Epicdom. Epicdom swung down the sword on the dog’s head, there was a crack and a yelp, Epicdom pulled back on the sword but it was stuck in the skull of the dog. The other dog behind Epicdom began to spasm, veins grew around its neck and shoulders, the dog was growing, it was now twice its normal size. Its teeth turned into what seemed like thick daggers inside the mouth of the dog. The new form of the dark howled out. The only audible sound was the horse running up behind Epicdom. Epicdom turned to see the horse behind him, he saw the saddle on its back, a saddle that wasn’t there before, ignoring the questionable appearance of it, Epicdom climbed onto the horse’s back and the horse immediately took off. The dog was big but slow; the horse dusted the dog as Epicdom rode it into the dark green sea that was the field preceding the Periculum. Chapter 4: The Beautiful Wind and the Dead Epicdom rode the horse through the grass; the dirt road had ended a mile back. The horse stopped at a pound to drink some water. Epicdom dismounted and washed off his bloody arm in the water after the horse was done drinking. Epicdom tore the sleeves off his button up shirt and wrapped his arm with it. There was a gust of wind and a scream. Epicdom looked up, about four yards away he saw a woman running towards him, behind her, he saw over twenty dark figures. Epicdom took out his rapier and readied his shield. The woman ran up to him and managed to say, “Please…help.” She stumbled to the ground in front of him. Epicdom stepped over her to face the creatures before him. They wore torn clothes, rags and such, their faces, punctured with gashes and holes. They’re skin was pale and a stench followed them. They had no weapon to wield, if they did, some of them couldn’t due to missing hands or fingers. Some were even missing arms. They spoke to each other in gargled voices and grunts. Then one of them stepped forward and charged at Epicdom. Epicdom was ready for it, he swung the rapier at the creature slicing into its abdomen, and he pulled up on the sword, cutting an “L,” shaped cut into the creature. Imperceptible organs fell out from the creature’s side, releasing another awful stench. The creature only stopped for a second to see the damage then continued to run forward, reaching its arms out for Epicdom. Epicdom swung his sword at the creature’s arms, cutting them clean off, still the creature did not stop, it kept coming. It banged against Epicdom’s shield, trying to reach around it with its mouth to bite Epicdom. The creature was forced back as Epicdom pushed forward with his shield, the creature stumbled backwards; Epicdom took his rapier and sliced at the creature’s neck, the head came clean off. The creature fell to the ground and stopped moving. The other creatures came at him, he was surrounded, and he knew swinging his sword wouldn’t scare them backwards. Then there was a strong wind, he looked around to see the creatures started to erode as the wind flew past them. In a matter of seconds the creatures were no more, and the beautiful woman could be seen standing, facing towards Epicdom, with her left hand out stretched. The wind seemed to be coming from her hand. As the last bit of one of the creatures disintegrated, she lowered her arm. The beautiful woman walked up to Epicdom and said, “Thank you for distracting them long enough for me to regain my energy, and I am the Wind.” Epicdom was speechless, but she continued, “You must be Epicdom,” she said. “I have heard you are on your way to defeat Letum, those undead creatures were on the way to stop you, but I could only slow them down for I did not have enough energy at the time to stop them. I have also come to help you.” She pulled out a glass container the size of a gallon milk container. It contained some kind of yellowish mixture. “This is Oleos Fervene; it is oil that will protect you from Letum’s fiery rage and being.” She handed the container to Epicdom. “I also must tell you that it is impossible to kill Letum without destroying his heart, his heart is a jewel that resides in the place his heart should be. Destroy the jewel and you will Destroy Letum. I must leave now.” She began to walk away then turned and said, “Oh one last thing, there is a code you must enter at the gate to Periculum; Action has already given you the code.” The Wind then walked away, Epicdom watched her walk away, then disappear as a gust of wind flew past her. Chapter Five: Letum Epicdom looked at the container in his hand; it had a handle on it. Epicdom went to the saddle to find a piece of rope; he looped the rope around the handle of the container and tied the other end to the saddle. After making sure it was secure he climbed onto the back of the horse, it was then he saw a name engraved on the saddle handle, it read, “Mortis.” Epicdom assumed it was the horse’s name. He patted the horse on the neck and said, “Let’s get going Mortis.” The horse, as if understanding Epicdom, began to trot then went into a full run towards the town of Periculum. It was beginning to become day when Epicdom arrived at the gate of the town of Periculum. There was a keypad on the side of the closed gate entrance. Above the buttons it said, “Please enter the three digit code.” Epicdom had no idea what the code could be, Action didn’t tell him anything about a code nevertheless the code itself. Epicdom thought back to the phone call with Action. He thought of the phone call, and then of the phone, then it hit him. “The message count!” Epicdom yelled as he typed in the numbers: 231 on the keypad. There was a rumble and the gate began to open. The town was dark and deserted, Epicdom rode Mortis down the empty streets, he had no idea where Letum was, the only possible sign of Letum’s location was the dark ominous cloud above the town market where flames were rising up to the sky. Epicdom urged Mortis forward to the town marketplace. As Mortis turned the corner, there was a large gap separating the ground, there was only a thin strip of wood connecting the next street leading to the market place, and the street they were on. Epicdom thought for a second and lead Mortis back a few yards. Then tried to urge Mortis to run forward and leapt across that gap. Mortis ran forward but then came to a halt in front of the gap; it turned its head back to look at Epicdom, and then neighed. Epicdom understood the hint, and dismounted Mortis; he untied the bottle of oil from the saddle, and began to walk across the thin bridge, not looking back until he made it to the other side. When he made it, he looked back to see if Mortis was still there, the horse was gone. Epicdom thought that the horse’s job was only to take him here. Epicdom then looked back down the street, and began to run towards the marketplace. When Epicdom arrived at the market place entrance, there were bodes lying all over the ground, all burned. Epicdom didn’t need to take a second look as he stepped into the entrance of the marketplace. There was another door and when Epicdom stepped through it, another fireball went flying towards him, Epicdom raised the shield and it hit the shield forcing Epicdom back. When Epicdom recovered he rushed through the door to face his attacker. It was Letum, he looked like a large fire, wrapped in black armor, his hands seemed on fire as well, and so was his face. Another fireball came from Letum at Epicdom; he sidestepped, dodging the flaming ball. Epicdom didn’t need time to recover; he rushed at Letum, sword drawn. Letum short flames from his hand, the flames took the shape of a pike. Letum grasped the pike with both hands and brought it up to block an attack by Epicdom. Epicdom tried again, but was forced back again when his attack was blocked. It was Letum’s turn now; he thrust his pike at Epicdom, sticking him in his thigh. Epicdom grabbed the pike to pull it out but the pike was hot, it was burning his leg too. Epicdom took his rapier and swung Letum, Letum took the sword in the side of his neck. This caused Letum to pull back, pulling the pike out of Epicdom’s leg as Letum fell to the ground. Epicdom still rushed to attack, he swung his rapier down on Letum’s back, and there was a loud clang and a spark. Letum’s back armor broke to pieces, revealing a pitch black body with only small rivets of red flame veining around his back. Letum rose and pushed back Epicdom with the bottom end of the pike. Epicdom still went forward; He thrust his rapier at Letum’s chest, breaking Letum’s chest armor. Letum’s front was almost the same as his back, black with rivets of flame. Epicdom, thrust his rapier in Letum’s chest to destroy his heart, but when the sword touched the black skin of Letum, the blade fizzed and melted. Epicdom immediately pulled the remaining of sword out from Letum’s chest. Half the rapier had melted away, it was then that Epicdom remembered the oil, he took out the jug and poured some of the oil on top of the sword. The oil only beaded and slid off the smooth surface of the rapier. It was then that Epicdom had an idea, he threw down the trashcan lid and poured the oil all over his right side, and he threw down the jug and with the rapier in his left hand, thrust his right hand into Letum’s chest. The burning sensation started immediately, although the oil impeded the burning of Letum’s internal lava, it did not stop it. Epicdom clenched the jewel in his hand and pulled it out. It immediately dropped to the ground, Epicdom’s right hand was almost completely gone, and half was melted away while the rest was still burning. Letum let out a roar that turned into a scream; although his heart was gone it was not destroyed. There was a bright light, very bright, then a burning sensation, he opened his eyes, and Letum had tackled him to the ground. Epicdom tried to roll on his back and succeeded; he grabbed the dropped rapier and then searched for the jewel. Epicdom was still burning from Letum who has upon him. Letum was slashing at Epicdom back with flaming claws. Epicdom heard screaming, loud screaming, it was him, he was screaming, screaming in pain as his body was burning with intense fury. He found the jewel and brought down the remaining blade of the rapier upon it, the jewel broke to pieces. Letum’s scream of pain joined Epicdom’s as Letum went limp and fell upon Epicdom. Epicdom was now covered with the lava body of Letum, Epicdom’s scream quickly ended as he was completely burned away. Chapter 6: The Return. Epicdom was thinking: Where am I? What happened? Why can’t I see anything? Is Letum dead? ...Am I Dead? The phone rang, Epicdom rolled over in his bed and groaned reaching his hands out blindly for his alarm clock, he found, it was three AM. Epicdom got up from his bed, rubbing his eyes; he then turned on the light. Epicdom walked to the kitchen, as he thought. Was it just a dream? Epicdom walked into the kitchen, by then the phone had stopped ringing. There on the phone flashed the number “232.” Epicdom waited for the phone to ring again, like in the dream, but it didn’t ring again. Epicdom pressed “PLAY,” on the phone. “You Have Two-Hundred and thirty-two messages.” Said the voice of the message machine. “Message two-hundred and thirty two.” Then the messaging machine beeped and the message played. There was a lot of static, and then the same ominous voice that belongs to Action said, “Thank you.” (I'm not looking for corrective criticism on spelling or grammar or whatever, just say what you thought of the story. Yes I know it's wack.)
