[sp]born risky[/sp]
Obviously the intentions behind this are good. Despite that I still feel that this reinforces negative/patronizing stereotypes about homosexuals. A fat guy dancing in his underwear surrounded by rainbows has nothing to do with the Olympics and it has nothing to do with homosexuality either. They could have given publicity to some of the many gay athletes competing in the games or just given words of support to them. Instead we get this. Really, nothing at all would have been better.

I doubt it, though "Gay Moutain" might.

I totally see where you're coming from, but I'd rather have this than nothing because people should be aware of what is happening in Russia at the moment.

If "Gay Mountain" does go viral it will demonstrate just how far we will have to go before homosexuality, and not the absurd caricature presented in the above video, will be genuinely accepted in the west.
I'm all for gay rights and gay marriage etc etc, I just wish shit like this wasn't made. I couldn't give a fuck if you are gay and I highly doubt stuff like this (if they ever see it) + The Google logo will make Russians change their mind especially the type that were in the documentary "Hunted".
Good for them. I'm not gay but all this shit arguing about whos aloud and whos not in itself is homophobic.
You may be shocked to learn that gay pride has always been a little flamboyant
Gays existed before "gay pride".
I don't know, I think it's kind of warranted. I'd be the first guy to say any kind of flaunt like this, for any type of lifestyle, is just ridiculous. Watching videos and reading news articles though about how homosexuals are treated in Russia though, I say rub a big fucking gay cock in their face. Seriously. The inhumane treatment of another human being because of how they conduct their life is abhorrent.
No shit, really?? I don't understand the point of this post
The point I was making was that there is nothing inherently flamboyant about homosexuality and therefore citing the flamboyance of the unrepresentative gay pride movement is irrelevant. Homosexuals managed to exist and often thrive long before the popular association with flamboyance took root. Obviously flamboyant individuals did exist but they simply weren't considered representative of homosexuals as a whole. Gay Prides represent only a tiny minority of homosexuals and misrepresent the rest. Despite the best intentions of such movements they are now little more than an embarrassment. Provocatively dressed old men gyrating on rainbow colored floats are nothing to be proud of. Homosexuals have such a rich history of poets, artists, authors, playwrights, scientists, athletes etc. all of which are largely ignored by the pride movement. It is an embarrassing disservice to homosexuality and it infuriates me that I and all those that came before me are now indelibly associated with it. It's just reinforcing stereotypes that fuel the views that currently exist in Russia. They could have created a video that showed various athletes from all walks of life, some of which were homosexual, working together and competing. It would have demonstrated the absurdity of treating people negatively based on their sexuality. It would have fit with the Olympic spirit of competition and fair play. Instead we got a half-naked guy dancing surrounded by rainbows.
They're indirectly calling Putin gay. I have no qualms with this advert.
"Born risky"? Shut it, channel 4. Y' used to be risky, but you lost y' 'nads years ago.
it isn't about telling the russians to stop it, it's to raise awareness [editline]7th February 2014[/editline] as to how effective that is, you be the judge
Raising awareness of what? If it's about raising awareness of the treatment of homosexuals in Russia it's probably not going to a very good job, in that it only implicitly references it. Someone with no knowledge of the treatment of homosexuals in Russia would not gain any information about it by watching this video and someone who already knows about it won't get any new information or insight.
pretty sure most people watching the winter olympics on channel 4 are going to hear of that news somehow [editline]7th February 2014[/editline] it's not like channel 4 is partly a news outlet, or anything
