US SCIENTISTS said on Sunday there is strong evidence linking oral sex to cancer, and urged more study of how human papillomaviruses may be to blame for a rise in oral cancer among white men.
In the United States, oral cancer due to HPV infection is now more common than oral cancer from tobacco use, which remains the leading cause of such cancers in the rest of the world. Researchers have found a 225-per cent increase in oral cancer cases in the United States from 1974 to 2007, mainly among white men, said Maura Gillison of Ohio State University.
'When you compare people who have an oral infection or not... the single greatest factor is the number of partners on whom the person has performed oral sex,' said Ms Gillison, who has been researching HPV and cancer for 15 years.
'When the number of partners increases, the risk increases,' she told reporters at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Washington.
Previous studies have suggested that people who have performed oral sex on six or more partners over a lifetime face an eight-fold higher risk of acquiring HPV-related head or neck cancer than those with fewer than six partners, she said.
But even though the link between HPV and cervical cancer has been well known for many years, and vaccines now exist to provide some protection, much study remains to be done to confirm observational links and establish causes, Ms Gillison said. 'The rise in oral cancer in the US is predominantly among young white males and we do not know the answer as to why.'
EVERYTHING causes cancer.
This is not the least bit surprising. But shouldn't the HPV vaccine take care of this?
That sucks.

How many times have we heard some form of Oral sex related to either being beneficial or detrimental in cancer rates?
I am dubious of this.
Didn't Frankie boyle make a Joke about this last year

This kind of fucking retarded scientifically unfounded response is useless. The article is saying that the HPV virus not only causes cervical cancer, but also oral cancer. Use a condom when you're giving head and you should be fine.

Luckily for you, you can keep not using that box of condoms on your blowup doll.
I also heard blowjobs improve teeth.

Ew. Female condoms.
Ew. Female condoms.
I was thinking more of sucking a becondomed dick.
Wearing condoms during a BJ ruins the fun.
cancer is no laughing matter my grandmother die of cancer
So just how many dicks did she suck?
Misleading title, HPV is linked to cancer risk -- which most people already knew although i didn't know that is caused cancer of the mouth, i guess i do now.
HPV is code for "Genital Warts" and if you google image (NSFW) search for them I'm pretty sure you'd notice if you were sucking a warts infested dick.
So wait. A guy shouldn't eat a girl out. But if a girl blows a guy, they have a reduced risk for breast cancer? Whaaaaat.
What happened was those guys all thought the genital wart they saw was the girl's clit, so they concentrated their tongue action on it. Next thing you know, oral cancer here we come(so to speak).
