Well, they always claim that "It's made to compete with this and that" while it's mostly just to make it feasible in eyes of the people who put money in it.
It's said to be multipurpose. I really like the design.

It's not only about the package, but also about what's in it.
Although when it comes to jets, the package also matters, and is preferably aerodynamic.
Need to see a top view, I want to see this fighter's outline.

No, but the point is to keep on your toes in case the shit hits the fan. And even if we DON'T get into direct conflict, it's a matter of pride to have the most advanced *insert weapon here*. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a more advanced fighter for either side should we come across a common enemy that those fighters can grind into the dust if need-be.
