Look out, Danny Ocean, you've got some competition: Last night, in a daring warehouse heist near Seattle's SeaTac airport, thieves made off with 7,000 Nintendo Wii U consoles. Yes, you read that right: Seven thousand.
As reported by ABC News, the heist occurred during last night's storm. The thieves rolled into SeaTac's Seattle Air Cargo warehouse in two semi trucks, entered the warehouse, and used a forklift to load pallets of Wii U's into the semis and a third box-truck before driving off into the night. Can't say they didn't have guts.
The ABC report is a bit unclear about whether the consoles stolen were the new Wii U or the older Wii, but a spokesperson for the King County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Kotaku that the consoles stolen were in fact Wii U's. With an average price of around $300 per console, that means the thieves made off with around $2.1 million in hardware. Dang.
"I'd be surprised if they're still using that truck and that trailer," a King County Sheriff's Office representative told Kotaku over the phone, "but we still want people to call if they see anybody advertising for any great deals for Wii U's on Ebay or privately, especially if there's a large quantity of them." The King County Sheriff's office can be reached at 206-296-3311.
It may be possible to track individual Wii U's and determine if they've been stolen, though we're not entirely certain how that would work. I reached out to Nintendo for more information, but a Nintendo representative pointed out that if there is an anti-theft measure, Nintendo wouldn't want to talk about it, since it would be the first thing thieves would disable. If I get more information, I'll update this article.
Theives?
Pii U.
I read this earlier, but my mind is still blown as to how they made off with that many Wii U consoles without getting caught.

I can't imagine if they were smart enough to make off with $2.1 million in merchandise that they'd just post large quantities of Wii U's on Ebay or anywhere else. They'll probably sell them off gradually.
At least he told people to keep a lookout, who knows? Maybe we'll see a funny news thread in the next week about how they got caught trying to sell all 7,000 of them on Ebay or something.

well there was thunder and lightning here in Everett last night, and hail and snow in a few other places
if that shit was out by Sea-Tac most people wouldn't want to be outside

You wouldn't check semi trucks for Wii-Us everyday.
It's the perfect heist really, If you see 2 semi-trucks the last thing you would think of them is getaway vehicles.

The best disguise is often the least expected one.
It's the perfect heist really, If you see 2 semi-trucks the last thing you would think of them is getaway vehicles.
To counteract this we now have to assume that each semi truck is a getaway vehicle.
Meanwhile, in Canada....

Not like they were going to get sold any time soon anyway.
Why would you steal something that no one is going to buy?

If they were sold at a marked down price they would. Imagine being able to buy a brand new Wii U Deluxe for $250 for example.
I'd imagine being ripped off. I could hardly justify buying a normal Wii now for $100 if it came with games and shit, much less the gimmick release that is the Wii U.

While I agree that it had an iffy launch in terms of games (only good ones IMO are nintendoland and mario, and I hear zombieU is decent), but when we start getting legend of zelda, mario kart, metroid, shit like that it is going to be fucking amazing.

I have had shittons of fun with nintendoland and I don't feel ripped off at all though.
If I get one, I'm going to be waiting until current Wii prices if not maybe lower. It's just so unimpressive as is.
is'nt that Wii U Screen Gampad a joke

Can we stop calling touch screens gimmicks now? They've had mainstream acceptance for years.
Although we do need to stop calling everything that isn't a gamepad or a keyboard and mouse a "gimmick"
In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use.
In this case, touchscreens have much more than "little relevance or use"

No?
Think about it. Showing maps and inventories and stuff on the gamepad is/will be sweet instead of going through a menu. You can play some launch games completely on the gamepad without it needing to be on the TV at all from what I have seen.
It's kinda sweet

No...
I have a wiiu and it basiclly eliminates having all your HUD elements on screen, it makes games like zombiu 10x more atmospheric.
Time to hit up ebay I guess.
