Just curious what people's preferences are. I hope this is the right place to post, I didn't see any other music threads.
I prefer active, but I play bass guitar.
Entirely depends on what I feel like playing. I really like the actives on my 5 but on a 4 I prefer passives.

I love active pickups, but obviously they have their weaknesses. Some people say they're harder to play on, anyone think so? I haven't noticed it.
When I played guitar I preferred passive, both have a different tone however... Depends on what you like.
For guitar I far prefer passives. They have a far more natural sounding tone with a nice warmth to the sound, while actives are very glassy and sound artificial to me.
But for bass I think actives give a lot more clarity and pop to the tone.

Another bass player here, I prefer active pickups.
Especially when combined with a decent on-board EQ, good for dialling in a killer slap tone.
