Counterterrorism police have alleged two of the five men they arrested in an operation in Melbourne this morning were planning an Islamic State-inspired terrorist attack on an Anzac Day ceremony. An 18-year-old Hallam man has been charged with conspiring to commit a terrorist act and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today. A second man, 18, from Hampton Park, was also arrested on terrorism-related offences this morning during a major joint counterterrorism team operation. A third man was arrested for weapons offences and two other men were in custody assisting police with their enquiries, after seven search warrants were executed. Three of the five men arrested were injured in the operation. One suffered a head wound and another resisted arrest. Capsicum spray was used to subdue the men. The Australian Federal Police said they believed the two 18-year-olds were plotting an attack to take place on Anzac Day.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-04-18/five-arrested-in-melbourne-after-a-joint-terrorism-operation/6402810 Scumbags. I hope they rot in prison.
I'm a little bit worried about the Anzac day dawn service in Turkey, all this recent ISIS shit would make the dawn service a big target for any terrorist organisation because it's the 100 year remembrance of the Gallipoli campaign + world leaders will be there to pay their respects I know Turkey would be on high alert but I haven't heard if Australian and New Zealand police are assisting them in making sure everything goes smoothly

Just means they need to be crushed.

I'll bet the whole plot was spoon-fed to them by an FBI agent. :v:

As a reference for people not in Australia or New Zealand, imagine if terrorists were planning an attack that would occur on the Veterans day of 2041, one hundred years after America went to war. There is literally no worse time to commit a terrorist act anywhere in the commonwealth than this Anzac day.
What is Anzac day? I haven't heard of it before.
What is Anzac day? I haven't heard of it before.
Australian and New Zealand Army Corps They were the soldiers they sent over to fight during WWI. ANZAC Day is a general day of remembrance for people who died in military service. It is held on the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli Peninsula which lead to a major failure for the allied forces and one of (pretty sure the) largest loss of life experienced by Australian and New Zealand armed forces. [editline]18th April 2015[/editline] It's like Remembrance Day.
What is Anzac day? I haven't heard of it before.
The Memorial for the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who fought in Gallipoli during World War 1, the campaign lasted for many, many months. Tens of thousands of people died and it basically solidified Australia and New Zealand as whole countries dedicated to solemnity about war and conflict when previously we were gung-ho explorers. It was also the first major conflict that Australia and New Zealand fought in and after World War 2 it became a national day of remembrance for soldiers who die in conflict. It isn't about praising war or the military, but acknowledging the people who died in pointless conflicts and appreciating the sacrifice they made regardless of the underlying political reasons for the conflict.

Remember when we didn't have this shit? Those were good times, I miss those times.
All up Anzac day is a really significant day on the Aus and NZ calendar, I'm going to my towns dawn service this year because of the 100th year of remembrance

We're more worried that Black Friday is almost here.
Daily reminder of one of the greatest quotes in history;
In 1934 Atatürk wrote a tribute to the Anzacs killed at Gallipoli: Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
[editline]18th April 2015[/editline] Thousands of Australians had to die for British interests, and this pisses me off.

Although many things we did in the twentieth century have almost faded from history, that fact has stuck. Perhaps because it's been featured in movies unfortunately, but the world - or perhaps just the people of Britain - do/does need to be reminded that the United Kingdom is far from a bastion of righteousness in the free world. We fuck up too.

We just need to commemorate these past painful events as the people of 21st century to make sure they never ever happen again. Though we are not that successful after all.
