It's a brutal weekend for weather in Central and Atlantic Canada as back to back storms strike in the midst of one of the busiest shopping and travelling weekends of the year.
Environment Canada is warning residents in affected areas of Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada to consider delaying or even cancelling their travel plans as “road conditions could deteriorate rapidly" in the face of freezing rain and significant snowfall.
The winter storm created dangerous conditions for motorists across Ontario and Quebec. Police in Quebec are investigating whether the weather conditions were a factor in at least four separate deaths on the roads overnight Friday.
Police in Ontario said weather was likely a factor after a fatal collision north of Toronto on Saturday night. The area was experiencing freezing rain when a car collided head-on with a tractor trailer, killing at least one person.
This sucks, and we're supposed to come up from Cincinnati to go visit relatives up there.
Vermont reporting in. We still haven't received any ice, and it's possible that we might even get rain instead. Honesty, I'd rather get ice than rain in late December.
report from brampton: everything is ice and everyone is cold
report from Winnipeg: We are always cold and nothing has changed here
report from here in Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph area: Literally all of the trees on my street have fallen to peices and it kinda looks post apocalyptic. Also its hailing like crazy about the size of ping pong balls. Also huge wads of ice are landing on my street and roof and everytime it happens it sounds like bombs detonating in the distance. Aside from all that the weather is lovely.
Looks like a regular Winter.
Everything is ice. I had planned on getting some last minute christmas shopping done, I'm not taking my car out in this though
Flew to Vancouver from Toronto on the 20th, hah!
report from florida: it's hot as fuck pls send ice
Meanwhile here in Maryland we decided to skip winter and go straight to spring

KW as well, transformer near my house exploded or something while I was in bed. Huge flash of light like a lightning strike then a BRRTTTTTTTTTTT sound like an A-10 was strafing the neighbourhood.

Yep. Average day here in Newfoundland.

Yeah here in Corner Brook we already have ~4 feet of snow
Ah, so Winter is the cold season. Thanks news.
just got electricity after a 2 hour power outage
everything here is covered in a sheet of ice
Report from Sweden, we ain't got shit for snow or ice.
News from the UK. The weather is rain.
We didn't get any freezing rain in my part of Ontario, but we sure did get a lot of snow. And just regular rain. It was nothing to make ice everywhere.
Toronto reporting in
Been hacking ice all afternoon
Should have salted the shit out of my drive way on Friday...
Woodbridge is still out of power I think. Been camping out at my grandmother's house for the day. she surprisingly has power still
A massive dead 200 yr/old tree collapsed from the weight of the ice right into my backyard and broke the fence and some other small trees.
I live in a suburb of Toronto, my house has been absolutely coated with ice and several of the large trees have come down, power lines have thankfully stayed up and connected.
Unfortunately I can't deal with any of the damage right now because I'm on vacation in Florida..
report from kentucky: we got tons of rain yesturday, might have some flooding due to the frozen earth.
Breaking news from the Netherlands: Little cold outside with tons of rain, feels like autumn.
Send snow, please.
glad we have all these reporters on facepunch to tell me that the weather's normal where they live!
North York reporting in. Some buildings got power (myself included, luckily).
Everything beyond DVP is out

Roads in quite a few places are blocked by fallen tree limbs. In my area it's not that bad, but some streets are completely blocked.

Traffic lights are out, but no accidents so far (everyone's going turtle speed anyways)

What appears to be snow is actually ice. You can step on it and break off pieces like this one here

And most trees, shrubs and whatever else with pointy ends looks like this:

And apparently some transformers still burn out, I saw two green flashes a few minutes ago. Figures, since now the ones left are working extra hard to keep at least some places going.

Stock up on fuel bud.
Huge flash of light like a lightning strike then a BRRTTTTTTTTTTT sound like an A-10 was strafing the neighbourhood.
I know, right? And because of the fog it looks like the whole sky caught fire.
Ah, so Winter is the cold season. Thanks news.
It would actually be much better if it was just cold with tons of snow.
We're getting a black Christmas here in Finland.
report from florida
its getting cold.
Here in Waterloo, ice is everywhere. The streets were salted, but my car was encased in a thick sheet of metal and I could barely get the damn door open. Power outages to. My store lost power for a few seconds.
The icicles look very cool though, and there's a large abundance of them.

Yeah... I didn't even bother with mine. The whole thing is one big ice sculpture.
