I just stumbled upon this and it seems to have flown under my and everyone else's radar. Thought others would be interested especially after the disappointment that was STRAFE. Fuckin' STRAFE wishes it was this authentically 90s :v:
Another fake. If they were truly hardcore that video would be in 360p.
Well, it certainly LOOKS the part. Looks like it could have come out in '95 or '96, with hours of live-action FMV cutscenes between the levels.
Well, it certainly LOOKS the part.
I think my biggest maybe complaint is that the movement speed looks a bit slow for the type of game, and I'm not sure how I feel about the real people instead of pixel art thing. But the allure of killing skeletons in a classic generic fantasy game is strong. I mean listen to this generic ass old fantasy ass lore
Magic coursed through the veins of Albion and for generations the people learned to harness it, and as with all things in nature they understood there was a balance. Uther Pen-dragon, the King of Briton, was heir-less and decided to use magic to conceive his son, Arthur; Uther did not understand the balance of magic, as one life was created another was taken away. It was the love of Uther's life and the mother of his son, Igraine. King Uther blamed magic and set out to purge Albion of anyone devoted to what he decreed 'The Old Religion'. Some devout followers exiled themselves, few went into hiding; Most were slain as they stood against Uther in defiance, even those who proclaimed they meant no ill and would only ever use their magic for good... A darkness now spreads across Albion, the crops are dying and the water is turning foul. The people are plagued with hunger and disease. Fewer by the day have the strength to fend off the Saxons who have been invading Albion from the East and slowly claiming land. It is feared they are now aided by dark magic, by those who were exiled by Uther's blood-lust -- masters of The Old Religion. Albion needs a hero now more than ever...
that's the shit I need after years of dark souls/game of thrones/skyrim gritty fantasy stuff
This looks pretty great, would love to see more 2.5d games like this in the future, always felt like it would be great to have more stuff like this.
also I checked the dev twitter and he has a classic hud option that I appreciate [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C_uLzorXgAEWKNY.jpg:large[/t] really cements the look apparently he's looking for beta testers and said beta may come out like next week or something? Hit him up on twitter if you're interested I swear I'm not the dev in disguise btw I just really like the look of this :v:
Looks aesthetically nice but the gameplay looks boring as shit honestly
I don't mind the digitized sprites (because ROTT shows it can look good), but I do agree that it looks a bit slow if that's the running speed. Regardless I'm always willing to try a 90's-style fantasy FPS. I loved Catacombs and Heretic, and this really nails the looks.
What I like is that the gore is more subdued than Strafe. It feels more classic than wannabes
Elder Scrolls VI is coming along fairly well.

And I mean for the time, sure, maybe it was bloodier and gorier than most games. But they aren't that gorey. People tend to remember vanilla Doom as if it was Brutal Doom. And it's nOOOOOOOOOOT
Ehh, not really a fan of the "realistic" sprites, accurate representation of retro games or not.
That's...that's not KEYBOARD aiming is it? The 90s were a dark, dark time.

I dig this, it's got a witchhaven vibe to it but it's not ugly as sin.
Oh this looks super cool.
