17:50: Anderson talks about the social order in his household:
If you want to go home and have your wife boss you around and lord over you, I’ll tolerate you doing that. But that’s not the way it’s going to be in my house, because I’m actually a real man who actually is in charge in my home, and I’m not an effeminate man who lets my wife boss me around and tell me what to do, like most men are becoming today, unfortunately.
39:05: Someone asks what the pastor would do if he came home, wanted sex, and his wife said no:
Well, the Bible clearly teaches in 1 Corinthians 7 that, actually, it is wrong for a wife to refuse sex to her husband, but it also teaches… the opposite, that it’s wrong for a husband to refuse to have sex with his wife. So that’s actually a two-way street… so when it comes to the bedroom, the Bible teaches that it’s not right for either party to deny the other…
There's more in the article, what a fucking joke

Your avatar was the one I saw from the front page with this news title.

Fuck this guy.
People like this don't do a whole lot of good for modernized Christianity...
Of course, they also don't do a lot of good for any other group they belong to either. If he were Jewish or Islamic, he'd be saying the same things... And, largely, so would we.
But, a thing to remember, is a morally-deprived person will be as such, even if they don't have their views of their religion to back it up. I'd imagine he'd largely be saying the same things if he were any other religion, but using different reasoning.
Tl;dr: Assholes will be asshats, no matter what creed they follow.
Religion provides a lot of people with a convenient excuse, but seriously I just don't have anything else against it. Hopefully most of this cockwad's parish is made up of sensible people, and they're going to (figuratively) crucify him for this.
warning: stay away from the youtube comments
its pretty much a rule of thumb with these kinds of videos but yeah you know the drill

Indeed it does, but the character of a person must be evaluated independently of their religion. Some people just have really crappy character, and they use their religion as a way to mask it, to make it "okay".

Agreed. The main thing I have issue with here is that this guy is a leader - That is, there are people who look to him for moral and spiritual guidance. Therefore, one can say it is his duty not to be an asshat. Unfortunately, he's failed in his duty, and as such should lose any power he has.
Crazy how people can be so open with stupid shit like this, if you don't like a person and how they live their life, keep that to yourself man. Some people these days...
The worst part is that he wasn't misquoting 1 Corinthians 7.

not each other
the biblical way would be that the man is allowed to rape the woman as much as he wants but if the inverse happened she'd be stoned to death for promiscuity or something
also stoned to death for being raped or talking or looking at something or being a woman
i'd hate to be his wife
or husband

assholes are much easier to follow when they have supposedly divine scripture to justify it.

Oh I agree we need to use the death penalty... on people like you.
I don't understand the point in giving this person attention. The only thing it'll do is further the stereotype that Christians are stupid/ignorant, when in reality, this person would be horrible regardless of his religion. If it was just some normal, family man, nobody would give a shit, but the fact that he is a pastor begs attention to further stereotypes and false assumptions.

The point of giving him attention, to some degree, is to stimulate an anti-religious circlejerk of sorts... Some people just enjoy pointing and saying "Look at that guy! All (insert religion) are terrible!" Often, though, said people aren't moral stalwarts themselves. Or, you know, basements...
when in reality, this person would be horrible regardless of his religion.
not to be all r/athiest but how can you be so sure about that because i personally think that the homophobia and misogyny expressed by certain religions does have a huge impact on society
assholes are much easier to follow when they have supposedly divine scripture to justify it.
Only if you believe in said "divine" scripture and his interpretation.
It should be noted all the Abrahamic religions have a verse in their texts similar to 1 Corinth. 7. Furthermore, it's almost entirely an opinion-letter by Paul of Tarsus, similar to a newspaper editorial or monthly church leaflet. It was added to New Testament Canon at the First Council of Nicaea, which was largely influenced by the sociopolitical climate of Bithynia in the Fourth Century A.D.

You can't really say this is true when he quotes the bible as his reason for believing the things he does. People will twist and turn the words in the bible to fit whatever meaning they want, they always have and they always will, and this guy is basically using it to justify what he believes to be morally right. The difference therein, though, is that he says it's okay because the bible says it's okay, as if it otherwise wouldn't be.

r/atheism itself has tons of homophobia and misogyny
plus it likes one really amazing guy who has an affinity for extreme levels of both of those as well as fruit

Indeed, but there is a large degree of nonreligious, agnostic, and people of faiths outside the Abrahamic group that express homophobia and misogyny on the basis of moral or personal opinion. In the most basic sense, some things are rooted deeply in human subconscious and social stigma, hammered in by religion, and preserved therein for long after the sociopolitical climes that brought them into being have long since passed.

yes but that doesn't change the fact that some religions reaffirm these practices. for example id say the catholic church's stance on certain issues have been more than damaging.
i would be willing to bet that a person who is raised in a religious family would have a far higher chance to be openly misogynistic or homophobic, if only because their religious beliefs affirmed and legitimized those beliefs

yeah but i mean its fairly easy to internalize religious beliefs even if you are really anti-theistic

At no point is it acceptable to kill somebody just because you disagree with them.
See, even if you think it's a good idea to punish people whose beliefs are "wrong", it's never a good idea. You punish people for their actions, not for the way they think.
There are people who've never been taught of any alternative to the Abrahamic faith. Is it right to punish them if they say something you don't like?
How about the children of the Westboro Baptist Church? They've been taught to pay no attention to anything that doesn't support the WBC's own views, so how would they know that what they're doing is immoral?
