Turkey's Erdoğan slams US move to issue arrest warrants for bodyguards
Several people were injured when a brawl broke outside Turkey's Washington embassy during Erdoğan’s visit to the U.S. in May.
Earlier in the day, the U.S. authority had issued arrest warrants for 16 people, including 12 bodyguards of the Turkish president, over the incident.
Speaking at an iftar dinner in the capital Ankara on June 15, Erdoğan said: "They have issued arrest warrants for 12 of my bodyguards. What kind of law is this?
"If my bodyguards cannot protect me then why am I bringing them to America with me?"
Erdoğan also said the U.S. police failed to intervene the brawl, while urging for empathy over what would happen if the same brawl occurred in Turkey.
The president explained that outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists and members of the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETO) were united in protest against him at a short distance of 40-50 meters from where he was with his bodyguards.
"The US police is doing nothing. Can you imagine what the response would have been if a similar incident had taken place in Turkey?" Erdoğan added.

Erdogan is such a tragedy. He was never perfect but he did so much good for Turkey, and actively worked to improve its democracy and equality. Now he's throwing it all away.
the arrest warrants make me happy. the fact that erdogan's actually pissed about it is the icing on the cake
What? Really? I just saw him as another authoritarian who destroyed what little secularism Turkey had to begin with.
When Erdogan began his tenure as President, he pushed for legislation like a huge increase to education, more support for religious minorities, and the scaling-back of the 1991 Anti-Terror Law. But, I wouldn't say he actively improved democracy and equality. He's been an Islamist since his tenure as mayor of Istanbul.
