interesting video, but I thought it was funny how they tried to make the private sale look more sketchy by having them meet in a vacant parking lot at night.
Before I was into firearms, I did consider private sales pretty suspicious. Trunk does have a point, they definitely do try and set an atmosphere. Earlier this month I went to a gun show and bought a rifle. It was a private sale, the man operating the booth did ask for my I.D, and did do the math to see if I was of proper age. A friend of mine also recently purchased a firearm through a private sale. It was during the day, and he met with the seller in a Lowell's parking lot.
I'd like to believe the majority of (private)sellers are a little more smart than the guy selling the Sigsauer in the video. Responsible gun owners know what they're doing, and part of this video demonstrates that.
I actually just sold an "assault weapon" via private sale. Transaction went down in a hooter's parking lot during the day. Both of us brought bills of sale, the guy I was selling it to was active navy and a concealed carrier. Most private sales aren't ~shady~ gun deals at night.
Australia's citizen's get on alright without guns, I can't see why America couldn't. Obviously a culture thing, embedded so deep in their minds with years and years of patriotic brain washing.

You're adorable. Don't bash something because you don't understand it.
EDIT:
Your country outright banned many firearms because a mentally unstable person got a hold of a gun. Instead of making sure the people who don't need to get a hold of firearms don't, your government had a silly knee jerk reaction and implemented some of the silliest gun laws in effect.
True your crime have dropped, but your gun laws are coincidental, not consequential. They were already dropping before your silly laws went into effect, and they continued to drop while your ban has been in effect.

Come fite me irl I've got 4 glocks strapped to my leg and an M-16 ready.
By watching this video it feels like I'm from a completely different country in California. Half of this stuff can't even done here. If you were to buy a gun off the street here the cops would come busting down your door. People can't even buy one instantly off a counter here either. Yet somehow we still have crime ridden ghettos all over the place with everyone using nothing but illegal firearms that aren't even available here. Good luck trying to find a gun in the first place as well, they're all gone now pretty much. Seriously there are no more guns left to buy they were all bought and the ammunition along with them.
Jesus this video is loading super slow, and it's on 480p

I'm sure they're not shady and can be pretty legit but they can also most certainly be used as a way to by pass the background checks needed for purchasing a firearm. I'm not going to assume anything about how these deals operate but they do seem very exploitable.

If someone wants a firearm for illegal purposes, they're not going to go through the trouble of organizing a (normally) legal way of purchasing a firearm at a normal price. Why pay 500-1000$ for a legl pistol when you can buy one illegally for substantially less?

Try taking your embedded not-having-guns culture out of your brain before saying stupid shit.
Durr hurr.

It's amazing how reactionary and patronizing you people can be at the same time.

Wow, that's even more hilarious. You're cute, honestly.
Holy shit i didn't know that it was THAT easy to obtain a gun in florida. That's just a major red flag right there if you can just go on craigslist and buy a gun no questions asked.
Where i'm from there are no private sales, only professional dealers and shops.

You seriously have to admit though that what endoftheworld said was just straight up dumb.
It's not a matter of patriotism at all here. In america people want to reserve their second amendment rights not for the good of the nation but for protection or hunting. It's about having the ability to own a gun and has nothing to do with patriotism.

I'm a gay college student currently studying computers, information science and technology in Philadelphia and i'm a fan of firearms and plan on buying myself a colt 1911 on my 21st birthday.
Lol whoops i guess liking guns means i'm a fat intolerant beer swigging christian sitting on my porch in Alabama admiring my pickup truck and own 30 rifles.
Milk actually has a point that while it is American culture to own guns and like guns, it's not really someone's place from austrailia to comment on it and especially refer to it as patriotic brain washing. Milk just used the guy's own medicine against him. That doesn't make milk or me a redneck shitbrain.

How exactly are they going to get an illegal firearm if not through an illegal purchase? How does that make sense? Especially if it is substantially cheaper like you say.

Private sales currently (depending on the state of course) are not illegal. Notice how I said "a normally legal way of purchasing a firearm...". When I say illegally buy one, I mean buy one thats stolen and has all of it's serial #'s filed off for 10-100$ from a drug dealer or otherwise. No idiot is going to organize a normally legal private sale to pay far more than he would normally need to.

Call someone out for being a patronizing ass hole by making fun of them and being a patronizing ass hole. Fucking brilliant
All that justification and guns being a hobby and a huge killer sniper-rifle being "fun to shoot" doesn't make you any less of a gun nut.
Guns are cool and all, but you Americans sure like to take it to the next level, like with many other things..

what's wrong with taking something to the next level? I like guns therefore I want guns. what's hard to understand about that?

I'd like you to find me a case in the US where a person was killed with a .50BMG. Nobody is going to shell out ~10 grand to buy a .50BMG and use it in a driveby. If someone pays the money for a .50BMG, he's using it for target shooting. Theres even a facepuncher that owns an M82 (I think) and as far as I know, he's not an insane lunatic plotting global destruction. It's a hobby thats no more dangerous than archery or air guns. Don't stereotype us as being insane because you don't understand it.
Air guns don't blow your foot off if you mishandle it, bows and arrows don't yield the maximum amount of dead people if someone decides to shoot up their school, and repeating that "most gun owners are responsible" doesn't change the fact that universal access to them means someone that shouldn't get their hands on one will. And even if it's true, "responsible" is a statement of values and not anything concrete.
You live in a social contract with the people around you and that comes at a price.
And when I said, "redneck shitbird," regardless if it's believed or not-- I was reacting to someone attempting to put words in my mouth. "You people" meant gun advocates. The first response was trying to make it look like I was making a slur, so I called it out sarcastically.
Anyway, that's my opinion. And I think it's proper that there's a dialogue on the issue. My original point is that doesn't justify being rude or foreclosing on other people's opinions just because they come from a different set of geographic values.

I actually bought a Lee Enfield at night in a casino parking lot :v:
Long have I waited for the day that we post back-to-back.
And I set up the buy via Craigslist too, imagine that.
