Zynga tries to buy Rovio for 2 billion dollars, Rovio refuses.
The company behind Farmville has money. Lots of it. And, for more than a year, they've been buying up smaller development houses left and right. But, Rovio—the development house that created mobile megahit Angry Birds—turned down Zynga when they came calling with mountains of cash. An article on the Bloomberg business news site reveals that Zynga reportedly offered more than $2 billion to acquire the Finnish company, only to be rebuffed. Rovio wasn't the only one to say no to Zynga either. Rolando makers Ngmoco turned them down and EA beat out Zynga when the two companies both tried to snatch up Popcap, best known for Plants Vs. Zombies.
Zynga currently has $1.8 billion in cash and the San Francisco-based outfit's looking to address its big weaknesses, which are an over-reliance on Facebook and a weak foothold in the mobile space. Angry Birds would've helped with that, but Zynga's hopes of caging the popular avians came crashing down like a green pig's house.

IMO, The decision to refuse Zynga's money is good. Zynga was basically buying good mobile gaming companies and shitting on their games.
Damn, might as well get slapped in the face
Good
I'm surprised Rovio didn't accept, all they really have is Angry Birds, and they're not going to be able to milk that forever.

They are still riding the wave up, though. If they wait, they'll either maintain their own success, or they'll be able to leverage a better offer. I doubt they'd sell at any point anyway.

you would think so, but

says otherwise
Thank goodness they didnt accept.
The less franchises that scummy company has the better.
Who needs 2 billion dollars?
Wonder if Zynga will clone Angry Birds now.
I thought angry birds space was enjoyable. And I heard rovio is working on some new ip.
Jeezus Zynga is like the new EA.
2 freaking billion...
Even thought they refused, I think a bubble starting to form...
Good to know Rovio's still got balls. We need more companies who can stand up and say "FUCK YOU we do what we want"
Rovio has shown they had some fresh ideas, especially with Angry Birds space. We all expected another Rio but that didn't happen. They don't need Zynga's money. The Angry Birds name is too well recognized to sell.

They're making several Angry Birds theme parks, so I'd agree that they're doing just fine.
if you cant beat em buy em
Hardcore pawn would give them $300 for it
I liked Angry Birds Space, apart from the whole "pay an extra dollar for this day-one DLC pack of levels" thing.
if you cant buy em beat em
Fixed that for ya. Zynga has been known to try and destroy their competitor by making a clone or worse an even better clone of their rival's product.

Surprisingly I'm watching that show right now.
2 billion seems to be a key number in the news today.
Zynga is the EA of the mobile industry, they're also the rapidly spreading cancer among it too.
I respect Rovio
I hate zynga because of how I can't get rid of the short cut on my windows bar or the desktop. :suicide:

It's cooler than it looks, it's actually really interesting
Who needs 2 billion dollars?
I wouldn't mind having 2 billion dollars. I could spend it quite easily. Cars, lots of cars.
2 billion dollars. For a company that made a cute little artillery game.
What the fuck.

Simple artillery game or not, it's still selling like wildfire. At the end of the day, that's what counts.
Looks like Furious Avians is about to be announced by Zynga then.
Naturally, a Finnish company is too proud to co-operate with an evil and destructive foreign company, good for Rovio.
Hey, what are you doing Nokia? The fuck are these new phones you're making?
And you're cutting a thousand jobs from the factory in my town? Fuck you.
But hey, Rovio will probably survive for a long time, that red Angry Birds soda is pretty damn tasty.
