I'm not saying what he's doing is right, but part of me thinks that kid deserved it
People shouldn't be afraid to hit their kids. There's clearly a line to cross, but one time I over heard this kid at a store screaming and crying and yelling at his mom, he was only like 5 or 6 or so but he was saying how he wanted to kill his mom and she wasn't doing anything. A light spank is exactly what she should have done to discipline him, and that's exactly what this guy did. He didn't hit the damn kid, he swatted at him lightly like we would a fly. [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] oh wow I actually listened to it with sound, the hit sounds fake as hell. Is it just me?

It really is an unhealthy attitude to think hitting children is okay. Look at any ol' article online and you will find they are pretty unanimous about the issue. The only reason physical discipline is used is because so many people go through their life having experienced it, decided "Well I'm okay, so it must be okay," and then did it to their children, whether they realized this or not. Check out some of these links if you're curious: http://www.parenting.com/article/is-it-okay-to-spank https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/good-thinking/201409/is-what-happens-when-you-hit-your-kids http://healthland.time.com/2012/02/06/why-spanking-doesnt-work/ Anyway, this is sort of off topic, as this all deals with physical discipline, which is different from what is going on in this vid. I don't know what the law is where this video was filmed, but that seems like borderline assault. Yeah that kid was being obnoxious, but you as a reporter should maintain professionalism first and foremost. Having someone pull the child aside would have been just as easy, and not involve a reporter stopping mid sentence to bat a kid out of his shot. Like, holy shit it isn't the end of the world that a kid is in your shot for a few seconds. If they were doing something inappropriate, sure, get them off frame ASAP, but he was just peering into the lens by the looks of it. Makes the reporter just look like an over-reacting asshole. At least to my barbaric Western sensibilities, anyway. Based on the location of this, it could just be completely commonplace. Such is the world.

Such is the world.
Beating children does not equal superficial corporal punishment, and not administering corporal punishment to a child that does not respect authority will in turn reinforce the child's image that authority is an optional concept. You don't beat your kids, you spank them when you've exhausted all other options. Discipline isn't something to be ignored in children, that's how your kids grow up to be felons. That said, nobody but you should be hitting your kids. Ever. As funny and deserved as that was, really, it's wrong. I'm not gonna not laugh, though.
