So think like most of the sci-fi books, Matrix or Surrogates (But you are transferring your mind inside a virtual network, not inside a robot)
In near Future programmers have developed the machine, which allows people to connect to the virtual reality which feels, looks, tastes, sounds and smells like real, but even better. You can eat any possible types of food, create your own cities and houses by just imagining them, fly like superman and know kung-fu. You don't need to wake up to eat or drink, everything is distributed right to you in form of a nutritious porrige. You age slower (Every body functions but the basic ones are temporary frozen).
Will you exchange your real life for that
Why/Why not?
Reposting this thread in GD, because Craptasket have kindly explained me that I should not post thread like this in Mass Debate by banning me for a day

While everyone is busy living in a virtual world, the poor (such as myself) shall loot everything. I say go for it.
Virtual realities are a joke, you'd have to have an extremley sad life to even think of living life inside a computer
Exchange life? No.
Eat virtual dinner with Jesus, Abraham Lincoln, and Bruce Lee? Fuck yes.

Unless it is a really, really good computer.

You don't see any differences between the real world and the virtual world, except living in virtual world is much better and easier
And 80% of the people have already moved to the virtual reality (So,Surrogates style)
If it turns out like second life, it's going to be full of furrys and spam.
I don't think I would want to live the rest of my life exclusively inside, though I would most likely spend most of my time there.
this thread is dumb
As long as I have full control of what happens, it would be an interesting experience.
are you in my philosophy class? cuz we literally went over this last week.

Nay, just rewatched the Matrix trilogy, read some books and remembered about that Surrogates movie (I think it was pretty good, don't care what others say)
-edit-
What did the teacher say about that?
we just had a debate about in class. the teacher just fueled the debate haha.
If there were virtual realities like that, people would just spend the rest of their lives in virtual sex programs. Let's just stick to porn.
we actually are living in a virtual reality right now
have you guys never seen the matrix?

Yeah but if the Matrix would be real, creators of matrix would not allow such movies to appear
:science:

the people who made the matrix are actually in the real world - they tried to get the message out by making a movie about it.
the aliens still don't know that there is basically a documentary about what has actually happened.
It is nice to think about but it isn't healthy to disconnect from from reality like that
Wasn't this the idea behind the original matrix? It was a perfect world in which everyone had everything they wanted? Then people began to die because they knew it was fake and didn't want to keep living or something like that... Thus the Matrix from the movie was born that mirrored society from the 90's.

But Matrix forced people to live in it

We already are in a virtual reality. It's called "the internet".
Mmm, this poses various questions. It is essentially pleasure and stimulation of senses to the max as to actually being a part of society and advancing observing and doing anything.
If I were one of few to ever do this, than yes, I would, simply because it wouldn't be a harm to humanity or society. But on the other hand, if this was to be administered to anyone and everyone, it would completely freeze the overall progression of society, rendering all things useless.
Plus the overarching implications are far more than that. What if there is a tsunami, or natural disaster that killed you while you are in a VR? What if everyone dies out due to this VR having no real implications on life?
The only way I can actually see the "everyone in a VR" thing come into effect is if humanity developed so far they had nothing else to do, or if humanity knew the end was nigh and this was the only option to die in an eternal heaven.

Not to forget, giant dicks in highly publicized interviews with celebrities.

Why exchange your life, can't you just go in and out of it
As sad as it is, I see a virtual reality like this as a good way to remove "mentally weak" people from society easily, without causing any suffering. If ANYONE seeks to spend their entire life inside this reality with no regard to what happens to their friends or family, then they're probably better off not interacting with society.
