Hey!
I'm considering buying a new bass. I have been looking for a intermediate bass, and i found a Yamaha BB414, which is pretty cool. But i read some reviews about, saying it wasn't good for playing funk, which is one of the genres i play. So i just wanted to hear if anyone played this bass, and could tell me about it.
If you any suggestions on a intermediate bass, then you are welcome to tell me.
buy a high-end squier precision or jazz
the low-end ones arent that good, but the high end ones are really great value, they play like fenders for under half the price.
squier vintage modified/classic vibe series is really great for the money
if you got around 500-600 bucks, buy a ibanez.
sr400-sr700 series
Isn't the Squier precision bass really expensive?
Fender Jazz or, if you have the cash, Musicman stingray. (If you need something cheaper, a used Musicman S.U.B!) - Both basses do the funk thing extremely well, the stingray is a damn slap machine, meaty tone.
You can get these used for a reasonable price and won't depreciate in value much (in the case of the SUB, will appreciate in value - they are getting damn rare, they stopped making them)
Most yamahas I've played have pickups that just can't handle slap, this was one of the reasons I ended up selling my RBX374 - I need a good allrounder.
The BB414 is great for fingerstyle though, if you roll the volume off the bridge-split-pickup you get a VERY Jaco-pastorious tone.
I urge you to check the Talkbass.com classifieds, used basses are always up for sale and the people there know how to keep them setup and maintained correctly, something that I'm sure you will appreciate.
Mexican Fender.

300 dollars...expensive?

I just heard that it was expensive.. But i checked it out and it wasn't that bad.
Thanks for the help!
I think that you were mixing Fender and Squier up.
if you've been playing for quite a while and can't see yourself quitting ever then you may as well go all out (as far as your budget can allow). just thought i'd throw that in there
as for bass suggestions, i'm no use, i play regular guitar

I heard that Squiers looses it's sound after like 4 years. Do you know anything about that?

Looses it's sound? Where the fuck did you hear that?
One of my friends told me. He plays guitar and heard that the Squier Guitars sucks and becomes boring to play.

That's a very strange thing to say about a bass.

The only thing I don't like by the looks of it are the pickups. I prefer humbuckers, and those seem to be too far from the base of the neck, where most of the high-bass sound is.

I apologize for any weird sentences or grammar and spelling mistakes. I hope you will get the meaning of what i write
Playing my Squier for 6 maybe 7 years now.
The sound keeps surprising me every day.

Actually, Yes.
I can get lively sounds and heavy bass sounds out of it like a P bass, good for slapping and poping as well.

Had this bass for less than a month, that link is the exact bass.
Whoever said squiers lose their sound after "like" 4 years is a fucking moron and knows NOTHING about instruments. If you keep your instrument in good shape, the sound will only get better due to the wood breaking in and forming new sonal qualities. That is one of the reasons why vintage instruments are so sought after/expensive (aside from being collector's items)
