Hey, when are you ever going to fix the problem where Steam fucks up when updating?
By which I mean the old Steam process stays running after the update, so Steam can't restart itself, causing me to have to manually end the process in Task Manager and then start Steam myself. Seriously, it annoys me.

Who does this?

I do.
Probably people who want chat logs.
How about they just fix the client. Nine times out of ten it crashes when I try to launch a game.

Thank you.
I still crash when I try to see the store...

i feel your pain it happens to me to.
Yeah what the fuck happened to Steam in the last month. It locks up every time I try and load a game or initially when I startup. It takes a few minutes to finally start responding again.
It's getting annoying since it never happened before.

I have a problem that is sort of like yours. If I try to open the overlay while in the first few minutes of launching a game, it locks up for awhile then it becomes fine. It's not because of the game loading, because it happens even after the game is loading and I'm in the main menu.
before update: steam used 10,000k memory
after update: steam uses 50,000k memory

this was a triumph
Steam for me right now: 83,656 K
All I have open is community and a chat window
[editline]09:25PM[/editline]
and i am making a note here
20k before, 50k after. :spsyduck:
24k :smug:
62,774 k here. it was 40 k before the steam update
75k :wtc:
[editline]04:34PM[/editline]
All that is open is friends list.
Close every steam window and it falls down to 11k for me.
106,044K
huge success
26k, :w00t:
24k here also.
Open a steam related window. minimize it. I have friend minimized, went from 40k to 8.

Yeah, I'm getting the high memory usage bug as well. This happened in the beta but they fixed it - nice regression Valve.

I'm on Windows 7, I want Steam to remain active in the taskbar. This isn't what the notification area is for anymore.

Holy shit it went down to 6k.
[editline]04:44PM[/editline]
It's normally 50k for me.
It steadily creeps up, from time of posting I now have 12. But that's still better.
36k right here. Steam's been acting up a lot lately.
Steam always uses 60,000 to 100,000 for me. Been that way for months.
49k, it's running a little high
After the update the memory usage was horrible, but I restarted it and I'm sitting at 16k used with the main window open.
Much better.
steam for me: 62,000 K ram.
