[release] Ever since Foxconn CEO Terry Gou told people that the robots are coming, we think the Foxconn workers will go jobless someday. As Foxconn is going to boost the number of robotsdoing those repetitive tasks on its assembly line in 3 years time, the Foxconn chairman recently talked about the workforce of the company, saying that the management of one million workers gives him headaches. “To manage one million workers every day gives me a headache that kills,” said Terry Gou at an activity in Taipei on Jan 15th.It’s pretty sad to hear that. Foxconn is currently the largest private-sector employer in China with over one million employees, but the company is pressured by the stresses of rising labor costs and negative media attention over employee suicides. Being the founder and chairman of the company, Gou needs to solve any problems coming out from the factories in mainland China. As everyone is paying attention on the lives of Foxconn workers, Gou must take care the workers, but at the same time, being able to cope with the huge demand of Apple’s super-popular devices. So, the effective solution to stop people calling Foxconn as a sweatshop is to partially replace the company’s human workforce with one million robots, and here’s what Gou was hoping for, “In the future, we hope designers are able to encode human intelligence into programs, converting the programs into robots’ software brains to match the intelligence of a 18-year-old human,”[/release] http://micgadget.com/21177/foxconn-ceo-manage-one-million-workers-gives-me-a-headache/
Kinda like a double edge sword situation I guess.
His arms look like someone else's :v:
He's a clever man. No human workers = no slavery
Might seem ruthless at first, but when you think about it: he's got a point.
Now the poor chinese won't have to suicide over their job. Because they won't have any.
Lol yeah I'm sure he has it so bad compared to his workers.
He should be thankful that he's not ACTUALLY dying like his workers.
Either the workers kill themselves (probably due to such repetitive tasks; can really bare down on your mind) or have no job, being replaced by robots. It's a difficult decision, really.
Oh the irony...
Even if he replaces workers with robots, he'll still probably have to employ people to maintain those machines
He has a headache that kills... Other people.
Newsflash: High stress kills you, be it physical or mental. Saying he has it easy compared to the workers is silly. Sure it might be not as bad, but you can't say his job is rainbows and unicorns. Boss jobs are stressful as shit, hence why so many bosses are angry jerks.
Even if he replaces workers with robots, he'll still probably have to employ people to maintain those machines
Yes, but that's an order of magnitude less workers, and they'll be significantly more skilled, it's not as simple as just keeping on a few of the current workers, I'm afraid.
What should be done is that the workers not be pushed to the limits no more, that means Apple should consider less demand from the workers. What that equates to is that workers do not work into a suicidal mind set. This is the reason I do not like the fact that most of my electronics are made in China most definitely by Foxconn.

OMG he has it so difficult! Yup.
Then again he could work for a year and never work again for the rest of his life living much better than his factory workers. OMG he has it so difficult!
Or maybe he needs to support his life? If it was like you say, do you think he would really stay at work if it caused him such problems?
Eh, what? THE POINT is that he doesn't need to work! His workers HAS TO otherwise they'll fucking starve. The CEO is just a whiny fucker.
Sorry, when you call your workers animals, I have no sympathy for you.
Even if he replaces workers with robots, he'll still probably have to employ people to maintain those machines
The robots would probably jump off the building as well
I think this guys has no idea of the meaning of delegation.
itt no one actually looked up the suicide rates in china. according to wikipedia, 23 suicides per 100,000 people. thats 230 per million people. foxconn actually has well below that number. so, compared to the rest of china, they aren't so bad.
He seems to have a lot of hair for a man of his age.. And he also seems to like to spend a lot of time posing for the cameras.
“In the future, we hope designers are able to encode human intelligence into programs, converting the programs into robots’ software brains to match the intelligence of a 18-year-old human,”
Great, now my fries will all be black with oil.
The suicides has nothing to do with the company, with a workforce that large there are bound to be a few people that commit sideways.
Eh, what? THE POINT is that he doesn't need to work! His workers HAS TO otherwise they'll fucking starve. The CEO is just a whiny fucker.
That's a terrible point. If he doesn't work his company goes to hell and he doesn't earn money. So yes he does have to work.
