Carter Page testifies that he DID meet with Russian government officials on Moscow trip
Carter Page, former foreign policy adviser for the Trump campaign, told the House Intelligence Committee he met with Russian government officials during his trip to Moscow in June 2016, according to a report Friday evening.
Page told at least one other Trump campaign aide in an email, which was read during the private testimony, about his discussions with government officials, legislators, and business executives in Russia, a source told the New York Times.
Page previously denied to the New York Times that he met with any Russian officials during the trip and earlier in the day Friday said that his trip was “totally unrelated to the campaign.”
However, Page confirmed the meetings with the Times, but said the interactions were “brief.”
“I had a very brief 'Hello' to a couple of people. That was it,” he said. He acknowledged one of the contacts was a “senior person,” but did not provide an identity. Page also told CNN on Friday that he met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich for a "casual hello" during the trip because they both were speaking at the same event.
Despite numerous assurances that he never met with Russian officials during his "personal" trip to Moscow, Page now testifies that he DID actually meet representative's of the Russian government, including at least one "senior government official."
He insists now that it was a brief and innocent greeting, and nothing more, but having already been caught lying about this once, it's clear that more is going on here.
More importantly, he testified that he told Sessions about this meeting, digging Sessions's perjury pit that much deeper.
Also, this confirms one more key point of the Steele Dossier. Nearly everything within has now been verified, except for the piss tape.
It really is Christmas every single day.
Sessions is fucking screwed
We should make 12 days of Christmas parody featuring this investigation then
Is it bad that I won't be satisfied until Trump is in prison and the piss tape is made public? :sax:

How deep the rabbit hole goes...

I'll be very satisfied without having to ever see his sweaty, orange, naked Presidentialness urinating on prostitutes. NSFL

IIRC, he didn't pee on anybody in the alleged tapes, he paid the prostitutes to pee on the bed Obama slept in when he visited.

As an update, the transcripts of Page's testimony were released, and they are fucking hysterical. There are some pretty big bombshells in there, because Page went in without a lawyer and just could not stop accidentally incriminating himself and the campaign. I'm posting from my shitty tablet right now and am unable to go through and post the highlights, but y'all have got to look at this. Twitter is going nuts over it right now.
What kind of absolute moron goes without a lawyer?

Without a lawyer? You'd think that these people would have a bit more common sense.

Is there a video or something going over this that you would recommend? The ode to Trump's impeachment sounds like a good soundtrack to fall asleep to!

There are some hilarious tid-bits in there. Page repeatedly, when questioned, replies "I'm just being careful" and "I'm being cautious" when avoiding answering questions :v:

sounds a bit wacky
Man, why the fuck would Trump pick an idiot like this to be a foreign policy advisor to the campaign?
Even if you don't buy into the whole Russian quid pro quo thing, you've got to look at the "best people" Trump picked fucking up spectacularly across the board and think something isn't right.
His testimony also confirms a major pillar in the Steele dossier, the Rosneft transaction.
Steele wrote in his dossier that a Russian source close to Sechin said in July 2016 that Sechin and Page had held a "secret meeting" to discuss "the issues of future bilateral energy cooperation and prospects for an associated move to lift Ukraine-related western sanctions against Russia."
The dossier alleged that Sechin offered Page the brokerage of a 19% stake in the company in exchange for the lifting of US sanctions on Russia.
Page told Schiff that the sanctions issue was "outside the scope" of Baranov's responsibilities, and said he couldn't recall when asked whether he had spoken to Baranov again after returning to the US. Page also said he met with an investor relations official at Gazprom while in Moscow in both July and December.
Asked whether he and Baranov discussed "a potential sale of a significant percentage of Rosneft" in July, Page said, "He may have briefly mentioned it."
"Did you ever express support for the idea of lifting US sanctions on Russia with Mr. Baranov?" Schiff asked.
"Not - not directly, not directly," Page said.

There is no evidence that Page played any role in the Rosneft deal. But Page returned to Moscow one day after the Rosneft deal was signed on December 8 to "meet with some of the top managers" of Rosneft, he told reporters at the time. Page denied meeting with Sechin, Rosneft's CEO, during that trip, but he said it would have been "a great honor" if he had.
From there, Page traveled to London, where he met with his "old friend" Sergey Yatsenko - a former mid-level Gazprom executive - to discuss "some opportunities in Kazakhstan."
Asked whether he had ever met the overseas professor who told Papadopoulos about the Kremlin's dossier of incriminating Clinton emails, Joseph Misfud, Page at first said "No."
But he then seemed to backtrack: "I - you know, there may have been a greeting," he said. "I have no recollection of ever interacting with him in any way, shape or form...I have no personal relationship with him."

Reading some of the transcripts I can't tell if this is brilliant misdirection on his part by making his testimony as difficult and contradictory as possible to follow or genuine madness. He sounds almost schizophrenic.

Okay nevermind, he apparently is just an idiot who can't resist oil money. He has also possibly talked to someone other than the FBI.

I'm not super familiar with the steele dossier but I mean if that's true, then I pretty much believe the piss thing happened. I doubt someone threw that in with a bunch of hard ass facts as a goof
next week it'll be "oh well i did actually have tea at the kremlin, and no we didn't talk about anything."
always waffle.
It's times like these I appreciate how incompetent these people are.

Do you think that in both those instances, as he completely stumbled through his answers, this was going through his head?

So, Manafort, Page, and Papadopoulis are solidly incriminated and the next targets look like Sessions and Kushner.

people at t_d and /pol/ are already saying "ok so WHAT if the russians rigged the election, politics is about winning and if u want to win you've got to take every opportunity!"
and the thing is, i can honestly see the trump team using that as their last resort

I'd enjoy that, because it's basically self-incrimination.

it actually sounds like internet debating. this is legit the kind of inane tactics that would fly in a text medium, but sound convoluted as hell irl

So I'm on page 168 of the testimony, and am probably going to read through the whole thing, but I have some questions:
1) Where does he say he told Sessions about meeting with anyone? So far, I've only read him saying that he told Sessions about giving a speech at the Moscow University, something that was public knowledge.
2) What part of the Steele Dossier was confirmed? I saw Radyr mention the Rosneft thing, but I didn't see any confirmation of that meeting in the testimony. The Dossier claims:
- Paul Manafort used Carter Page as an intermediary with Russia
- Carter Page met with Sechen and discussed removing sanctions
Both of these are flat out denied by Page and are not consistent with his testimony. Page says he never spoke with either Manafort or Sechen.
