VG nett follows The Arabic television channel Al Arabiya reported that around 1,400 people are missing after the riots in the capital Tripoli and other cities in Libya. Landets leder Muammar Gaddafi skal ha forsøkt å slå tilbake demonstrasjonene ved hjelp av jagerfly og væpnede leiesoldater. The country's leader Muammar Gaddafi to have tried to beat back the demonstrations by armed fighters and mercenaries. Several experts said Libya might be heading towards civil war.
Libya is now the least safe place to be as the body count tops 560, according to the TV channel Al Arabya. More then 1400 people are missing. As protesters have ambushed soldiers and obtained heavy weaponry and vehicles it can go from being classified as a massacre to being classified as a civil war. This can also be classified as a revolution, comparable to the infamous French one. There's no wonder the death toll is so high considering Gaddafi has ordered in snipers and the air force to take care of the protesters; http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1061473-Libya-protests-Gaddafi-sends-in-snipers-to-silence-the-dissent http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1062162-Gaddafi-utilizes-the-Libyan-air-force-to-crack-down-on-protesters The madman himself is said to have fled; http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1062106-BREAKING-Libyan-Leader-Gaddafi-likely-to-have-fled-Libya-to-Venezuela Although horrible I believe it's an important and necessary revolt to get rid of this butthole insane regime once and for all.
so american interventionism y/n
so american interventionism y/n
N As much as I think these people need help, getting involved militarily in another insurgency situation and tarnishing our national image isn't what we need at the moment.
so american interventionism y/n
Possibly, since its interfering with their oil.
so american interventionism y/n
N
These aren't protests any more, this is a bloody civil war.
It is in the western worlds best interests for the lunatic to stay in power, he is in our pockets along with his oil supply whether the populice likes it or not. The americans/brits will want Gaddafi to win this war just not publicly as it will tarnish their own reputations. We need to keep an open mind on this one because what is being said by downing street and the white house may not be what is happening especially seems oil is involved in a big way. [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline] Although personally I want Gaddafi gone .....
Actually, he hasn't fled: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8339806/Muammar-Gaddafi-I-am-still-in-Libya.html
Also Gaddafi confirmed he has not fled. [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
Actually, he hasn't fled: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8339806/Muammar-Gaddafi-I-am-still-in-Libya.html
Pretty much this.
Possibly, since its interfering with their oil.
esecial oils
Someone should do something about this, I say UN peacekeepers. UN should start putting economic sanctions in place.
so american interventionism y/n
If we go in with UN approval to stop the killings and remove mercenary death squads, yes. We should no say in anything and leave once UN peace-keepers arrive and the nation sorts itself out leadership wise (aka, we don't fucking jam democracy down their throat while telling them how awesome freedom is)
Someone should do something about this, I say UN peacekeepers. UN should start putting economic sanctions in place.
And an angry letter stating their disappointment.
viva la revolucion
Someone should do something about this, I say UN peacekeepers. UN should start putting economic sanctions in place.
Libya has got sanctions out the ass (though nowhere near as stringent as those on Iran and Best Korea). A part of me really wishes for some international intervention (but not from the US, we've got enough problems) to stop those death squads and to bring Gadaffi down and before a panel to be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It seems this was already a war, Just up until now they were fighting with sticks and stones and now they have guns and tanks.
I love how this hasn't been reported by the BBC
Gaddafi currently speaking on state tv http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/
He sounds pissed!
Aww shit a civil war now, now some serious shit is going the fuck down.
I think the UN should intervene and help sort our some kind of election.
I love how this hasn't been reported by the BBC
It is, actually, they're airing the same live speech of his as Al-Jazeeraa at the moment (slightly out-of-sync, different translator) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12307698
Gaddafi currently speaking on state tv http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/
Watching it, guy is batshit insane.
I think the UN should intervene and help sort our some kind of election.
Name one instance where the UN actually did anything aside from lay out useless sanctions or write angry letters.
Wow he sure is angry. Random sidenote: Here's a statue he had there; [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1467131/Snap5.jpg[/img_thumb]
Name one instance where the UN actually did anything aside from lay out useless sanctions or write angry letters.
Suez Crisis.
I think the UN should intervene and help sort our some kind of election.
That's a brilliant joke right there, my god it is killing me ahaha.
I think the UN should intervene and help sort our some kind of election.
They might send some people down there wearing pretty blue armour and stand around with guns they can't shoot.
The bullshit he's pushing about the Libyan people having the power, that he has none, just sickens me.
Suez Crisis.
So it's been 50 years since they did something useful?
