It begins! Powerful North Korea will turn the imperialist aggressors into ash
(Reuters) - North Korea took its demand for the United States and South Korea to halt joint military drills to the United Nations, holding a rare news conference on Friday to warn that the exercises could get "out of control and plunge into unimaginable disaster."
North Korea's U.N. Ambassador Sin Son Ho said that the international community should no longer allow the United States and South Korea to carry out the military drills on the Korean peninsula, which are scheduled for February and March.
"If the 'coordination' and 'cooperation' with the U.S. are so precious and valuable, they had better hold the exercises in the secluded area or in the U.S. far away from the territorial land, sea and air of the Korean peninsula," Sin said.
North Korea has traditionally called for the joint exercises to be called off, seeing them as a prelude to invasion. Sin repeated that demand at the United Nations on Friday, first made by Pyongyang last week, for the drills to be canceled.
South Korea on January 17 rejected the North's call to halt military drills with the United States, saying that as a democracy, it does not launch preemptive strikes.
No thanks, we're good.
That time of the month again, uh?
We'll cancel the military drills if you cancel the human rights violations. Seems fair to me.
How about SK and USA just hold military drills somewhere else to stop getting NK's panties in a twist every 5 minutes.
Because listening to NK will only encourage them.
But I don't want to be turned into a 10-year old that never wins a pokemon league.

Because the United States doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

But it's literally the only entertainment North Koreans have other than watching their Glorious Leader eat something.
I doubt SK even has any real interest in invading the north due to their economic structure. Merging the two would probably be many times worse then the struggle Germany had when it reunited, the north is just so backwards.

The drills are especifically designed around a situation involving North Korea

Why should they? It's not their fault that NK violates human rights in the name of trying to hold some barbaric dynasty ruling over starving citizens.

They don't want to invade the north, they're just worried the north will invade them.
The little man is cocky now, hohoho.

The South doesn't really have any intention of invading the North. These drills are primarily to keep themselves prepared for (and to scare off) the potential of the North invading them, something that may not actually be all that practical, but at the same time something that North Korea is constantly claiming their capability and willingness to do.
Of course North Korea dislikes these drills because they remind them that if they actually were to try and invade SK they'd get completely demolished.

That would only end up horribly for the north, hopefully they aren't that stupid.

They might just be. If NK has proven one thing, it's that logic does not apply when they do things. It'd end horribly for everyone, NK would kick SK's ass until the rest of the U.S. got there, Seoul would be cinders, at least a million civilian casualties I'd wager. NK would probably slash and burn Seoul and anything else they manage to get to.
Major crippling of infrastructure and causing mass casualties is the only way NK would stand a chance in a war, considering it is probably impossible for them to win hearts and minds of the people they would occupy.
You forget that NK is pretty much ready for war 24/7, and a million men with shovels is still a lot more than SK and the U.S. have in SK at this time. If they held off the initial wave, NK would be toast and the war would be pretty much won rather quickly as NK's only hope is one fast, massive push into SK. After that push dies out/the U.S. gets reinforcements on the ground, plus whatever other countries join the fight, NK will end up losing. China would probably either remain neutral, violently blocking their borders from refugees or side with the U.S. considering siding with NK would be economic and political suicide.

pretty ballsy for someone who holds no cards. We had better do whatever the fuck we want, they are skating on thin ice already with their travesties of human rights.

With our advanced intelligence and weapons I believe that we could put an end to their incursion before any major damage is done. We have enough missiles on ships that can launch from half a world away to level the entire country and then some.
i would consider the territorial waters of south korea and japan to be secluded and removed from the north sufficiently enough. but unfortunatly the north considers ALL of korea's waters to be theirs for some reason, they just let the imperialists borrow it so they don't have to use their mighty navy

i think north korea in the next 10 years will become an unmitigated dissaster and finally the international community will convince china that it is the right thing to do by invading, because even now china should be worrying about instibilities in the region, also north korea basically destabalizes the entire region, something that is increasingly affecting china as they are trying to attract forign investors to all parts of china

you seem to be under the impression that NK could walk through the world's largest minefield, deploy sufficient tank forces to counter SK's sophisticated defenses, and somehow reach and destroy Seoul before SK's military could mobilize. sure NK has probably a million big guns pointed at SK, but if they invade they are on SK's territory and they have the inferior force, they would NOT have air superiority as sorties could fly out of korea or japan to defend them, and the only advantages they would have would be their artillery power which has a limited reach and possibly superior numbers of poorly equiped troops, which like was proven in WW2 and the first korean war, can be countered easily by dug in positions. no it would be a bloodbath, and if they did somehow reach Seoul, the largest city in the region, it would be probably a bloodier fight than Stalingrad was for the germans. also don't forget the south korean military is probably networked so if NK made a move anywhere into their territory they would know immediatly where, and could quickly mobilize forces to attack. SK isn't stupid they would see a NK buildup of troops and forces months in advance. as we learned in the gulf war, iraq had the superior army in numbers and was fielding probably more advanced equipment than anything NK has, yet they still were easily pushed back by a smaller more agile, better networked force. even though they have china as their benefactor, i doubt the chinese would be stupid enough to arm the NK army with sufisticated enough equipment to challenge their own fighting force, which means they would be no match for SK's forces either

I never said it would be easy, but it is possible, NK would have to be pulling a lot of cards from their sleeve or something. It would still be brutal, and I never said they would get very far. Their only real chance is a massive initial assault, that's accounting for them being able to pull plenty of strings to even make that effective. The last confirmed real statistic I read was that NK had less than one bullet per soldier in their military.
North Korea plans for an old fashioned Chinese charge, but they have also invested in unorthodox and unconventional tactics like mini-subs and other kind of old tech to circumvent their technological disadvantage over the US and SK.
They would lose horribly, but they would make any kind of counterattack next to impossible to carry out without heavy casualties.
Both sides of the border would be reduced to nothing with the kind of firepower both sides have aimed at each other already.
NK won't do anything unless the US and SK literally do invade.
That time of the month again, uh?
North Korea's "time of the month" :v:
North Korea won't attack because if they do, they are fucked and the rich elite of the Regime won't let that happen.
It just tries to be very big so nobody dares to attack them.
