http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24335528
The creator of Grand Theft Auto has warned there might be teething problems as its online version launches. Last week Rockstar North admitted it was facing "unanticipated" pressure because sales of GTA 5 had been stronger than expected. "We are working around the clock to buy and add more servers," its blog said. But it added that matters could be "more temperamental than such things usually are" because using so many computers introduced their own issues. In the online version of the 18-rated violent crime game, up to 16 players can interact simultaneously within a virtual environment and create personalised avatars. It is included free with every copy of the GTA 5 console video game. According to one analyst's figures, more than 15 million units of the title had been sold by early last week. "At a conservative estimate I would expect about two million players to log on to GTA Online within the first 24 hours," added Keza MacDonald, UK games editor for IGN.com, the video game and entertainment site.
I really hope that error 37 was the error code they used.
-snip-
I love how the popularity even took Rockstar by surprise, i love even more that they admitted that, and even more more that rockstar is trying everything they can to avoid server problems and have since bought more severs and that they're still warning us properly that despite their efforts it may still fail.
I thought the late release of gta: online was a time cushion to compensate for server related issues due to the massive number of games sold.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24335528
...two million... I am guessing that it will be much, much higher.
At least you'll still be able to play the damn game, because Rockstar aren't the most dense fucking people on the planet.
when exactly does it come out because its october the first in Australia
when exactly does it come out because its october the first in Australia
Around 7AM EST.
when exactly does it come out because its october the first in Australia
It's released October the second here in Australia :(
It's released October the second here in Australia :(
I know that but we don't know what time, everyone is assuming 6PM tonight because supposedly its 12am in New York but R* didn't release what specific time zones it'd release in
I'm not even going to bother for the first few days.
Do you need a social club to play online? I haven't linked mine yet

We have three, +10 +10.5 and +11 but that will do, cheers! [editline]1st October 2013[/editline]
Do you need a social club to play online? I haven't linked mine yet
Both xbox live/PSN and Social Club but it takes a second to set up and link
It'll launch in 6.5 hours for people confused. I'm posting at 12:30 AM.
I am expecting it to disconnect and crash a lot, social club has been acting up for the past few days since GTA V's release so I wasn't surprised by that
Damn it, it launches half way though my work-shift. At least by the time I get back, the server might be a bit more stable.
Damn it, it launches half way though my work-shift. At least by the time I get back, the server might be a bit more stable.
By that time, the US will be sleeping!
I'm glad that they're open about the server issues. Man, I have no fucking idea what the first thing I'm gonna do is once I download the patch and create a character. Probably run someone over.
At least you'll still be able to play the damn game, because Rockstar aren't the most dense fucking people on the planet.
Nope.
Nope.
Well, no, you can still play SP
Well, no, you can still play SP
I can't download the 1.01 update. It asks me to, I choose yes, and then the screen goes blank and just sits there. [editline]1st October 2013[/editline] nevermind, crisis averted, Raidyr can play video games. Continue with your normal routine posters.
I couldn't get in a game today. At least they've admitted the problem and are trying to fix it though.
Almost none of these large online games work flawlessly off the bat. At least they're actively warning us that we will probably have issues instead of just telling people to keep trying as if the problem was not on their end.
the more time goes by the more I'm beginning to appreciate the time gap between console and PC release.
Wait I don't understand, is this for GTA V? Did they not include multiplayer on release?
I love how the popularity even took Rockstar by surprise, i love even more that they admitted that, and even more more that rockstar is trying everything they can to avoid server problems and have since bought more severs and that they're still warning us properly that despite their efforts it may still fail.
Yeah it was fucking weird, I was expecting GTA V to go the way of GTA IV where it turns out it's actually not that great / is hit or miss, but it seems like it blew all other GTA games out of the water in every way. As much as I try to not be interested in this game until a PC version is released(don't have a console, hate having an interest in games I can't possibly play), it's proving really hard, friends talking about it and showing GTA V videos of awesome shit happening like the Chilliad police chase video don't help.
It's a bit of a pain, not being able to get online. I was trying to just play solo to get into the swing of things, but I can't even get the first mission to load. It's a shame, but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon enough.
