Modest Mouse is in my top 5 favourite artists as of now. There's just something about Modest Mouse that makes them approved listening under circumstance. Some songs are fun, others are deep and depressing. Isaac Brock's distinguished lisp hinders his amazing vocal performance in no way whatsoever, it amplifies the "every day guy" feeling if anything. Isaac Brock also grew up in a pretty fucked up situation.

Fuck yeah!
From Wikipedia
Modest Mouse is an American Indie rock band formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington by singer/lyricist/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. They are based in Portland, Oregon.[1] Since their 1996 debut album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, their lineup has centered around Brock, Green and Judy. Guitarist Johnny Marr (formerly of The Smiths) joined the band in May 2006, along with percussionist Joe Plummer (formerly of the Black Heart Procession) and multi-instrumentalist Tom Peloso, to work on the album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Guitarist Jim Fairchild joined the band in February 2009. Their name is derived from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story "The Mark on the Wall" which reads, "I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises.
In 1994, Isaac Brock, Jeremiah Green, Eric Judy, and John Wickhart recorded their debut EP, Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?, at Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic Studios. It was released by K Records. Then followed a single, "Broke", under Sub Pop that was recorded by Steve Wold (now better known as bluesman Seasick Steve) at Moon Studios. During this time, Modest Mouse also recorded their would-be debut album Sad Sappy Sucker, but constant delays caused the album to be shelved and forgotten (it was officially released in 2001). Until making waves in the pop music world in 2004, many of their tours included stops at DIY/punk venues.

Regarding Isaac Brock:
During his childhood, Brock and his mother moved around in different offshoot circles throughout the Pacific Northwest. Brock was home-schooled for part of his school career.[4] When his mother's house flooded she was forced to move in to her new husband's trailer where there was no room for Brock, so he stayed behind. He lived on the second floor of the flooded home until he was evicted by the police. After a period of living in a friend's basement, he moved into a shed he built on the land next to his mother and stepfather's trailer. It was there that he, Eric Judy (bass) and Jeremiah Green (drums) first started practicing music together.
Although many of his songs use religious themes, Brock describes himself as "not really religious at all," adding that "I'm 100 percent on the whole Christianity thing being a crock of shit, pretty much." He claims to "toy around with the whole Biblical thing," because it "just has amazing characters" and also identifies himself as "pretty much" an atheist.[5]
His songs have also addressed his substance abuse, as in "The Good Times Are Killing Me." Brock admits to past drug use, and now says that drugs are "just something I kind of have to fight... I just try and make sure that it's not around, or I'm not around it."[5]
Brock is a former A&R man for the record label Sub Pop; his most notable accomplishment with them was signing Wolf Parade in 2004.[6]
Isaac currently resides in Portland, Oregon.

Oh, and his mother's new husband is his father's brother.
I'll start with my personal favourite tracks then onto the more popular tracks that you've probably heard before.

Little Motel - deep, meaningful song. Depressing so it might ruin your lovely day. The music video is utterly amazing.

I've only got the latest two albums but DAMN they are good. I won't need the rest for some time, there's so much to explore in them.
I know, right? Their sound just changes so frequently, so 2 songs are similar whatsoever.
Little Motel's music video always gets to me. Sad stuff... :smith:
I've always thought Good News For People Who Like Bad News was a bit underrated. Most people say that's when they started to get "bad". I disagree I say it's just as good as the Moon and Antarctica and the Lonesome Crowded West. I do miss the four minute jams, but the band also has a very good sense of melody that shine the most on this album. Plus the lyrics are great as always.
Also, anyone else think the packaging for This is a Long Drive... really sucks. They chose the most unreadable font against colours that just make it more difficult to read.

also this thread needs this song.

A lot of my friends didn't care for We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
Is it weird that I loved that album?

Cowboy Dan is fucking awesome.
also found this old demo the other day, wish i could find it in higher quality if it exists. It is so fucking awesome.

Its a 36 minute unfinished documentary, its from '97 and its a friend of the band pretty much so film is really raw.
Also, is it me or are Heart Cooks Brain and Out of Gas the same song?

One of my favourite songs by them.

know exactly what you mean. dunno if its just the same sound they give off or what, I always get them confused though.
I love Modest Mouse, their music is so ambient, but upbeat and loud at the same time.
This is honestly one of my favorite music videos ever.

I tend to stick towards their older stuff, as I'm not a big fan of the direction they're taking now. But their new stuff is still pretty nice.

Indeed, Sad Sappy Sucker is my favourite album.
I love Modest Mouse. Ocean Breathes Salty is one of my favorite songs
I got into this band because of my older brother, I always remember him listening to them.
I love the band, they have a certain sound that when a song of theirs comes on my iPod, I know its Modest Mouse.
The thing that gets me most in the little motel video is the smilie face at the end being undrawn. Pretty powerful thing to end a video on
Absolutely love Dashboard by them. I haven't really listened to their other music as much though. Their two newest albums once each I mean. I'm correcting that right now, by listening to The Moon & Antarctica.

i'm to lazy to get links but look them up, they're amazing :downs:
Are they furries?
Are they furries?
No, it's just a photoshoot for one of their music videos.
ITT: people rating OP optimistic because of the first picture.
I like their drummer and the style of their songs
Funny, Ive seen modest mouse about 3 times in the late 90s early 2000s. My first MM album was LCW, which I got a month after release. MM is in my top 5 of all time, but I haven't bought any albums since the album with Float On. Ever since they signed with a major label, their sound changed. It sounds way too over produced, poppy, and disco-y to me. Their best albums are Moon and Antartica and everything before it.
Bump for amazing.
Their compilation of singles and rarities, Building Nothing Out Of Something, is quickly becoming my favourite of theirs. Especially because of Broke. One of their best songs.
I heard Big Boi was producing their new album.
For someone who enjoyed Good News For People Who Love Bad News, what album would you recommend me to try next? Just wondering.

It sounds like you like their more "poppy" stuff, so I'd check out We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank and This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About.

The Moon and Antarctica is pretty cold and dark compared to Good News. This is a Long Drive and The Lonesome Crowded West have more of a jammy sound.
I have Good News, Dead before the Ship Sunk, and Lonesome West. One of my favourite bands
Edit: Just watched the music video for Little Motel now. Damn that's depressing
where is the love for dashboard
why isnt this in the op:
