So here goes yet another "facepunch saves a bird" thread, we got 80 mph winds last night where I live and it broke my stupid bastard tree. We just got done cutting up the tree, and it seems there was a bird living in the tree. Its nest is a little broken, and its birdy offspring is still in it. The offspring seems to be alright for the most part. I just fed it 4 worms and Im building a little box for him now so my cats dont eat him. I just set up my raspberry pi as a streaming device yesterday and I see an oppertunity to kill two birds with one stone. Link: 208.107.176.73:83 Username: bird Password: bird Ill feed him and shit, I know chances probably arent good, but if he dies, such is nature. Nothing lost. I made a box for him UPDATE Ok, its an american robin nestling.[del] Its probably gonna die tomorrow while Im at work because it needs to be fed every other hour.[/del] nevermind I forgot my little brother is home, he can feed the bird.

you got more vehicles then the entire rest of the neighborhood by the looks of it
Its pretty close. Does anyone know if baby birds need water?
Are any of us on Facepunch boid experts?
Camera is back up. He seemed a little stronger this morning. Here's hoping he makes it till I get home today.
If it does, and if it does need feeding every hour, the poor thing will be very weak. Best of luck
Poor guy is crying right now. :'( [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline] Are you adjusting the camera or has it fallen down?
I forgot my little brother is home so he's feeding the bird while I'm at work.
Are any of us on Facepunch boid experts?
Boid 'expert' here. Insectivorous birds are pretty hard to raise on your own, ideally putting that box out where the parents can find it would be ideal, they'll hear the baby and go to it if they're still around. I don't recommend feeding it worms as they can contain harmful parasites. Normally the parents would catch all sorts of insects to regurgitate for the young. If I recall, a recommended diet was hard dog or cat food soaked in warm water to soften it (If you have a mortar you can grind it up first to speed things up), drain off pretty much all of the water first so you're left with a soggy mush at room temperature. If the food is too soggy they can inhale the water which can lead to pneumonia.
Ah sweet, thanks man. The box is in my garage right now, but today I'm gonna waterproof the camera and stick the box outside. I'll 86 the worms and start with the soggy doogfood too.
I'm only just realizing how invested in this bird I am Surprised that this thread hasn't blown up yet
I made a waterproof enclosure for the pi and moved the box outside He started chirping for attention when he heard all the birds outside. Hopefully his parents are still around and decide to move in. [editline]23rd June 2015[/editline] Its also got a better wifi signal, so it looks like better framerates ahead
You may want to put it on higher ground If the parents come back, they might think the nest is in an unsafe place
Where is bird?
Unfortunately the bird died today. His chances were never that great, Im not really surprised. Not a complete waste though, because now I have a birdhouse that I can spy on birds with. I mounted it in a tree and waterproofed the camera cord a little more, so Im gona leave it there for a while. I might make another thread if some other birds move in, but until then Im gonna let this thread wither into the void of dead GD threads.
