• Russia accuses Ukraine of attempted Crimea 'incursions'
Russia has accused Ukraine of trying to carry out armed incursions into Crimea - the territory seized and annexed by Russia in 2014. The FSB intelligence agency said two attempted incursions had taken place over the weekend and a Russian soldier and an FSB employee had been killed in clashes with Ukrainian special forces. It said it had found bombs, ammunition and mines in the area where "terrorist attacks" had been foiled. Ukraine has rejected the accusations. "This is fake information," a spokesman for Ukrainian defence intelligence said.
BBC article. This is not good at all, as there's a major Russian military build up in Crimea in past few weeks.
Sounds like establishing a casus belli to me.
Sounds like establishing a casus belli to me.
Yet another one?
Yet another one?
Probably to expand the territory, you know, "We need more space to secure the safety of those in Crimea, so we're going to 'liberate' the Donbass now".
They wanted a land link between Crimea and Donbass but lost that opportunity when the rebels failed to take Mariupol. They'd be crazy to do it, but I wouldn't put it past them to try again.
Probably to expand the territory, you know, "We need more space to secure the safety of those in Crimea, so we're going to 'liberate' the Donbass now".
Russia also needs to connect Crimea with land, as right now Crimea is a massive money sink for Russia.
Ukraine has rejected the accusations. "This is fake information," a spokesman for Ukrainian defence intelligence said.
There's something really lovable about the simplicity of his response.
I mean is it really an incursion for Ukraine's own territory?
There's something really lovable about the simplicity of his response.
Ukraine is just getting really tired of Russia's bullshit
Russia has been building up a huge number of troops over the summer. It's possible Russia might openly invade and annex Donetsk, Mariupol and everything south of the Dnieper. More likely they'll just use a shitload of Russian artillery and unmarked Russian forces to back up the rebels, as they have been doing the past two years.
As of right now I am in Crimea myself and I gotta say - locals aren't surprised by such events althought they tend to believe that rather than Ukranian Governent Special Forces it was just yet another pack of nutheads from Ukranian nationalist batalions. They did nasty shit previously and destructive behavior without any repercussion by Ukranian officials sure leads to escalation like that. Best wishes from Russian Peninsula)
Best wishes from Russian Peninsula)
The Crimea belongs to Ukraine. But of course, what do you expect from
Why is Russia edging to go to war every Olympic season
Crimea belongs to Ukraine. Russia's expansionism is ever-present and Putin tries desperately to keep Russia relevant on the world stage. Instead of trying to develop an economy and create a powerhouse that stretches across two continents, he pretends to play Tsar and take territory from independent nations.
Crimea should be independent. Then neither get to have it. Either share or stay out of it.
Crimea should be independent. Then neither get to have it.
Russia illegally annexed Crimea from Ukraine. It is Ukraine's rightful territory. Stop talking about stuff you clearly have no understanding about.
If Russians in Crimea doesn't want be part of Ukraine and Tatars not of Russia. It would be the best solution.
Do you not know how to read? Let me bold to help you out. Crimea is Ukrainian territory ILLEGALLY ANNEXED BY RUSSIA AND IT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO UKRAINE.
how do you even....do the russians just say "this is ours, nyeh nyeh" or what
how do you even....do the russians just say "this is ours, nyeh nyeh" or what
As you can see from karamatrix's amazing and insightful post, the following arguments for Crimean illegal occupation is the following: Ukraine is bad!!! Russia is great!!!! Ukranians hurt russians :'( (even though they're not even russian, they just speak russian) UKRAINIANS ARE BAD AND EVIL!!!!!

For what reason. Because it belongs to Ukraine, of course. Fuck the people living there, right? "You don't have a choice."

To make people happy, countries should be able to invade other countries to make people happy!" If that's the logic you're employing, then you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Russia invaded and illegaly annexed Crimea to """"protect"""" "russian speakers", NOT "RUSSIAN CITIZENS".
if they prefer russia they can move to russia lol, it's right next door
Exactly this.
As you can see from karamatrix's amazing and insightful post, the following arguments for Crimean illegal occupation is the following: Ukraine is bad!!! Russia is great!!!! That's why there were sanctions put in place.

You are clearly biased and can't be objective. Speakers, citizens doesn't matter. Ever heard of ethnicity? They are ethnic Russians, are they not? They feel a connection to Russia and not only just through the language.
if they prefer russia they can move to russia lol, it's right next door
And abandon where their families have lived for many years, I don't think so.

Of fucking course I'm biased because I'm ethnically Ukranian and I have family living in Ukraine who are suffering from Russian influence and warmongering.
Speakers, citizens doesn't matter.
Um, it does matter. Because the reason Russia gave for their occupation is bullshit. "Protecting russian speaking citizens"
