Crazy, what is that thing? What's it from?
Can you explain exactly how this works? Amazing that it rarely flips.
Can you explain exactly how this works? Amazing that it rarely flips.
For sure, there's an awful lot happening here so I'll just give an overview. I designed the machine, it's track, and made the video so feel free to ask anything about it. The engine in the center closely resembles how a steam engine works in real life. The spinning things spin so fast that they throw steam away from the center extremely hard, generating pressure. This pressure pushes a piston all the way down, while also opening and closing some valves to make the piston go back the other direction. The two pistons are timed so that they make the blue center gear rotate forwards. As the gear rotates forwards, it tries to "lift" the whole engine up the wheel, which makes it tumble and causes it to move forwards. The higher up the engine climbs, the greater the force it is trying to crawl with. The reason why it rarely flips is because I intentionally made the blue gear pretty heavy, to reduce the chances of the machine flipping completely over. This is how a "monowheel" works in real life, except in real life they are super dangerous. It's a pretty efficient design in this game though, doesn't take much speed or power to work well.
