..Like to roast our cigarretes before we use them to roll a joint, I've never questioned this custom and can easily see the benefits of doing so. But last Saturday I ran into this Finnish fella at a bar, we got to talking and somewhere along the way we ended up at a square downtown rolling a joint.
He was using his wallet as a mixing tray and I was roasting two cigerattes. But as soon as I pulled up my lighter and started giving them that familiar yellow/brown color he was looking up at me asking just what the hell I was doing. I explained the benefits of roasting out the Nicotine in the tobacco, how it slides more easily into the cone and whatnot, and he was like: Daymn son, I did not now that :O
So I ask this question, is this just some odd danish custom or did I just run into an odd finnish lad?
So you met a finnish guy at the bar. I'm finnish myself :v:
Anyway! My friend actually roasts the cigs before he mixes it with weed. I've always questioned it and now i'm going to question it to you.
What makes you so certain roasting it will just simply burn off the nicotine out of all other thousands of other chemicals in there? Maybe it burns nicotine + shit tons of other chemicals off as well, but I don't know.
I've smoked a roasted cigarette too, not full because it had a part of it ripped off for the weed mixture.
It tasted semi normal, a slight burned taste to it but i didnt really care whether it had nicotine or not, just tried it

But no, most people here don't roast cigs for their weed mixtures.
Well first and foremost it's to burn out the nicotine(And other shit, the need to roast with self rolled tobacco is probably much smaller). Why this is important is because some say(might be a myth) that you won't get a mixed high. The other one is the danger of nicotine addiction, I for one don't give a shit about that since I've smoked since I don't know when. The third is that the smoke scratches less in the throat(That's a word by word danish description, don't know if it works in english) Or in other words, it makes the smoke lighter on you. A third reason is that since the little amount of moist in the tobacco is burned out your mix will slide much more easily into the cone.
While the above reasons are purely pragmatic I also have other theories about smoking culture in general. In Denmark we in short have two types of smokers. The first type does generally not roast their cigarrettes because for them it's more about getting high, and fast- and inevitably roasting a fag is another process to be dealt with. The other type is me, and a fuckton of other people. We like to nurture our joints, make it as good as possible, bin cones with the slightest defect, basically we enjoy the process of getting to smoke almost as much as the smoking itself. So it just might have something to do with being satisfied in every aspect.
Roasting the tobacco before smoking it is just common sense imo
My brother does it too, just because cigarettes contain a small amount of perfume. Also it's nice when your weed is a bit wet, and you have some dry tobacco to mix it with. My mates dad roasts his mixture under a lamp for like half a minute.
Roast cigs all the time when mixing with the brown. Don't see the point in adding tobacco to the green though.
We do this in Norway.
I think it's pretty random wherever it's common or not to do it.
Back at my hometown the people I used to smoke with saw it as common sense to roast and we've always done it that way. But when I moved (this wasn't far just to another small town like 80km away) and meet new people they looked weird at me when I wanted to roast the cigarette and they've never even heard about it.
So I don't think it's bound to any specific country.
If you're smoking marijuana with tobacco I wouldn't be too concerned with nicotine addiction, heh.
I've never even heard of this. Here in NY whenever me and my buddies go to roll a spliff we just use pipe tobacco, but we rarely ever mix bud with baccy. We're either smoking cigarettes or a bowl of bud.
I can imagine it's a bit different in the Nordic countries, it's much more common with the brown than weed here, and pipe tobacco isn't that common.... at least where I'm from.
I always roll my joints with some fresh rolling tobacco. Burning up the tobacco would seem to just ruin in the taste of a joint, all ash and resin tasting

TOtally off topic but pipe tobacco, why? It's so large and unmanageable.
I do it all the time. as you say its extremely common in DK, because we smoke so much hashish. but i also put a little tobacco in skunk joints just to make it burn better and more evenly
We do this in Norway.

Simple, as anders22 said below, it burns better.
Though, pipe tobacco isn't less harmful than normal tobacco, so there's no real reason to do it. Not talking about the taste... Super tip: don't go for cherry flavour.
Pipe tobacco is a lot worse for you than normal tobacco, it's moist and sticky with tar
Exactly, the greeeeeat thing about roasting is that the tobacco is so dry it pratically slides into the cone ;)
i dont break open cigarettes... i use roll your own tobacco :smug:

All burning plants contain tar.

so does most other normal people :P
I don't
Am I normal?
TOtally off topic but pipe tobacco, why? It's so large and unmanageable.
Because where I live it is much cheaper then cigarette tobacco.
I do it.
I am danish. High5 bror
Hold hovedet højt
but i also put a little tobacco in skunk joints just to make it burn better and more evenly
This, also because you waste less weed that way (or at least I like to think that).
This, also because you waste less weed that way (or at least I like to think that).
It does waste less weed, and it burns slower too so you get those extra tokes from the smouldering that would have burnt it down in blunts
I've never come across the concept of roasting cigs. Might try it today.

Doesn't taste like a sod at all if you've roasted it properly.

I still don't see the point in it. Maybe with cigarette tobacco since it's full of shit, but with rolling tobacco it seems kind of pointless
Well, I've named the reason why I do it, I just want you to smoke somewhat aware of your health.
