Okay, that's just hilarious. How fucking deep in denial can they be? [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] Also, how shit are you at "black ops" missions when you paint over the markings on your vehicles, but you let your soldiers keep their dogtags?
The veil is a bare few atoms thin at this point
It's what happens when you suck at subtlety, and Russia is no stranger to that concept.
Way I see it, this is less incompetence and more lack of care mixed with underestimating Ukrainian capabilities. They prolly never considered the fact that their troops might get captured or killed.
They accidentally removed the markings from their vehicles too, but everybody makes mistakes I guess.
Don't worry, any second now we'll have some Russians coming in to tell us that this is just Western propaganda and should be ignored.

Also, while i'm pretty sure there are groups of russian specops acting on Ukraine soil, these very guys don't look like them at all. They are just regular soldiers. Probably they really crossed the border by mistake while patrolling or something.

Seriously mate? Is that the best you can come up with? If they accidentally crossed over the border I imagine they probably wouldn't have got rid of the markings on their armor, it's in fact far more likely that they were ordered to go across and just coincidentally happened to collectively have the IQ of a retarded salmon.

I mean, they must be retarded to wear dogtags and uniform on secret missions. This is stupid. They could easily dress like rebels, but they didn't. Also, can you please link the source that mentions their vehicles and erased markings? I can't find this in the OP's article.

Russkies fucked up. I think the soldiers were intended to join the rebels or something. Just no reason to really attack Ukrainian military with Russian soldiers since if we wanted to do it we would just use artillery.

This is really strange they didn't take the dogtags off on a mission in Ukraine. Especially considering how "green men" previously acted in Crimea without a single mistake. This probably was an accident, even though a fucking stupid one. They are most luckily border guards. Just my guesses.

This is where they were captured according to "Ukrainian source" That's pretty deep in. Now I don't think it really was a mistake, because you coudn't not notice passing 3 Ukrainian towns.

Actually, i'm not trying to justify everything my country did lately, and i don't think it's all white and such. And i'm not denying that there are russian soldiers among rebels, disguised as rebels. But sending troops with tags which can cause a big political problem is not logical. Why would they do this?
I linked you before.
Oh, this video. All right, I'm at work now, so can't watch it at this moment. Thanks, anyway.
I linked you before.
I watched it all. The guy says they disguised BMD serial numbers, not remove all signs of identification. Also said they were basically fooled into Ukraine and didn't even know where they were going until they saw an Ukrainian tank nearby. Had their IDs taken away the day before. Looks shady and strange. Either Russians did it for some kind of provocation or Ukrainians faked it. Or maybe it was really a mistake, but on Russian commanders part. Then someone is getting fucked by The Emperor himself soon. This is all really shady. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] Oh wait I found a misconception. The guy in the video says they were on a 70 km march and didn't know where they were going. They were escorting a column of BMDs (however where they went when they entered Ukraine remains unknown, since the source doesn't talk of captured BMDs). However The guy says they arrived to Rostov and then were sent of a march. Route Rostov-on-Don to the village they were captured in. 150 kms. How can you fuck up the distance twice?
This explains all those Russian fighters and bombers that occasionally entered the airspace of the UK and US. They're all mistakes. The russian military is really just shit at orientation. "Oh shit we drove into Crimea, oh well, might as well claim this place for the motherland before leaving." :v:

In 1612 the cossacs randomly, without permission from the Tsar or any valid reason, entered the city of Azov and captured it. Then they proceeded to hold it for 5 years, defending it against the Turks. The Tsar, however, didn't want a war with the Turks (yet) and didn't claim the city. So the cossacs eventually had to leave.

Generally you would paint over the markings to make it harder for someone to make a quick confirmation on weather you are friendly or not. Dogtags aren't really something that you discern at a distance.

As far as i know, their main purpose is to distinguish bodies (which is undesirable in secret missions) and to provide some medical information. The latter usually can also be found on a uniform.
To be Perfectly fair they were told they were marching into Russia, Ukraine just wasn't told yet
